After 4 years of taking 25-50mg doxylamine succinate nightly for insomnia, it finally stopped working (even if i take higher doses, also tried taking a week off which made no difference).

Even mirtazapine doesn't work, which is apparently the strongest antihistamine. It's clear my histamine receptors are fried.

How long time off do you think would be needed to reset it's sensitivity back to normal? (if even possible)

It is definitely possible, but the length of time will vary for every individual. I overused antihistamines for quite a while in extreme doses. To the point that 25+ 25mg diphenhydramine wouldnt sedate me. After a few weeks I was able to take them at normal doses.

Since you have been taking them daily for so long, I would take a break and if you need a sedative then try something that doesn't cause sedation via H1 antagonism. You should get better results after 2-4wks of abstinence.
