Wutup.... so its been almost 10 days since i last used Heroin.... I had been using opiates in general for about 4-5 years, and heroin on a daily basis's for about 2, with a few bupe breaks here and there. I was IV'ing anywhere from 4-8 bags a day, (east coast stamp dope). Im def feeling a million times better then i was last week, but still not myself. I know its going to take awhile to get back into a normal sleep pattern, but how long do you think it will take for me to starting getting my full energy back, and my motivation. Im supposed to be going into a salvation army rehab program tomorrow, but im starting to get cold feet about the whole deal because im just not feeling up to snuff yet. And this isnt some 30 day fluff your pillow program, im pretty much gunna be put right to work once i get in this place. So if anyone has any experience, especially if you have a similar story/habit to mine , some feedback would be cool, just want to know how long i should expect to be feeling like this.

Thanks

ive had them from 2 weeks to a month. With heroin its not as bad and you should be feeling way better by next week. Then maybe another week till you are back to feeling "normal" Its one of the most annoying parts of getting clean. Try and eat right, drink lots of water, take vitamins and sleep well. It will help you get better. A little caffeine when you are feeling really beat helps too. good luck man.

Yea i def been eating/drinking well since ive gotten my appetite back, and ive been takin a multi vitamin everyday. Still hard as hell for me to sleep though, my body just doesnt feel right. I been tryin to stay away from caffeine though cuz i havent been sleeping well but im gunna give it a try today cuz this lethargy is so overwhelming at times.

for me the physical symptoms of opiate withdrawl lasted a good 2 weeks but the mental aspect of it....3 or 4 months (constant cravings, depression, anxiety, restlessness) your sleeping pattern will be FUCKED UP for awhile no sleep for 2 nights 3 hours the next none the next....so on so forth.....i was doing 4-5 bags a day for 1 year. dont expect to feel "normal" for a couple months....

GOOD LUCK

Yeah, when i got clean before it took about 6 months to start sleeping half ways 'normal' and about a year to get the best i got. try melatonin if you haven't already. it helped me a lot at that time.

yea ive been taking valerian root and diphenhydramine the past few nights, helps a lil bit, i really wanna try and get some melatonin, heard it works great with the valerian root.

In regards to the PAWS, it took about 2 months to feel "normal" after quiting heroin.

Don't go to rehab if you don't have to, I was able to break a number of huge habits (heroin, fentanyl, oxycodone, benzos, GHB, methadone etc) without rehab, so I imagine others can do the same if they are so inclined....

Yea i know what your sayin... i feel like kickin the dope cold turkey is like winning a minor war in itself. But i left new jersey to move all the way out here to arizona, not only to just get away from my old surroundings/ habits, but to show everyone in my life that i care about that i wanna do this the right way, n not just for them but for myself, but believe me, i would much rather just go on with my life now and stay away from everything in general, but i think i owe it to all the people who i have hurt over these past few years to go to rehab. Ehhh =\ its a weird situation man, n im just tryin to make the best of it ya know, thanks for the input tho guys, it has helped a crap load.

I'll agree with negrogesic, don't go to rehab if you don't have to. It's not for everyone, and it certainly doesn't always work. For some, it's just part of the "cycle."

As for how long paws lasts, usually it's a couple months. Personally, it has lasted anywhere from 2-4 months. The major physical symptoms should be gone after 2-3 weeks though, and they're not really considered as paws. Usually 1-2 weeks for the lethargy, aches and pains, restless legs, diarrhea etc. For me, the last one to go was usually the insomnia and irregular sleep.
But anyway, back to paws... I've found that keeping yourself occupied and busy helps out a lot. Pick up some hobbies, start exercising, get a job, do some volunteer work, etc.

Good luck.

yea im gunna give the rehab thing a try, and if its not my thang then im def gunna be out of there. i mean just getting out of jersey was a big step for me, but i kinda wanna see how the rehab goes for me, i think it will be a good experience for me none the less. but i def see where u guys are comin from.

heh, im not sure of the habits and how much opiates you guys were taking daily but PAWS has a lasted a very logn time with me..ive been clean for 3-4 years now and i STILL feel paws related symptoms..i was hooked on nubain for a few years, then oxycontin for a few years and the heroin and then methadone..each for a few years and like i said, i stillhave paws related symptoms so everyone saying that Paws just goes away within weeks, they must have not been using opiates for that long...

Yea ive heard from some people that it can last years. Can you be a bit more specific about your PAWS symptoms, and how long you have been clean?

what does paws stand for? something like 'post addiction withdrawal symptoms'?

anyway, i guess i'm pretty damn lucky that i was never hooked on heroin. its bad enough being hooked on poppy seed tea, and the one time i actually quit for any length of time (about 2 months), physical wd's only lasted about a week and the mental shit lasted about a month.

post acute withdrawl syndrome. just means the residuel affects you have long term after you go through the main physical aspect of your w/d

ive been clean for 3-4 years....

paws symptoms i have are anxiety, difficulty sleeping, racing thoughts, increased sweating, lethargy, ahnedonia, depression...now, the symptoms are not constant but they are there...

Yes it can. it is highly variable. You'll just have to go through it to see. it gets easier as time goes by.

This was not my experience, and I was using very large amounts of numerous opioids for years. The PAWS from the methadone withdrawal lasted longer than the PAWS from heroin, but even that went away after 4 or so months.

Perhaps the "PAWS" from opioids didn't seem that bad after going through some nasty benzo withdrawals. I still experience what may be PAWS, such as being slightly more clumsy than usual, but I attribute this to the benzo withdrawal...

Whenever I'm off opiates I feel like complete crap. I was clean for over a year in 2005 or 2006 (I don't remember exactly). How long PAWS last depends completely on the user. For some people the withdrawal will trigger psychological issues that won't go away for months, or years. When I was completely off opiates I was depressed, and somewhat discontent in my life. During this time I did exercise and do more projects around the house, but now that I'm on suboxone I find I get the best of both worlds. I don't suffer from too much depression/anxiety and I'm motivated enough to get things done.
