How Long Will Cacti Cuttings Stay Fresh?

I've had this 12" San Pedro cutting for about a week now, because I thought I and a friend were gonna trip last weekend, but were unable to :/
So, I'm wanting to save it for a camping trip in 3 weeks, but will it stay fresh that long? Or will it start to decay/mold?

Keep it wrapped up in newspaper, especially the exposed flesh on either end - that's the part that will rot if it isn't covered. San pedro is a hardy plant that will endure if left to its own devices - the skin protects the mescaline content on the inside even if the branch has been severed for several months. Keep it in a dark, dry place. Leaving it in dehydrated conditions can in fact stress the plant and increase its alkaloid content, giving you a stronger trip. Enjoy!

You could just stick it in a plant pot & water it to keep it alive. That's how mine started.
