How long to hold in the hit?

its also best to force the smoke up towards the top of your lungs.

this is very true. i dont understand the lungs well enough to know why.

from 5-8 second the avioli dilate in your lungs and absorb more of whats in there.

thats why medical inhalers say hold for 10 seconds.

at 5 they expand and absorb, at 8 they constrict again and nothing more is taken in.


thanks for having some hard facts there. so are you saying at about 13 seconds? i guess thats believable, but i still think there are small amounts that can still absorb after that time. thats just speculation from my experience though.
 
Nobody in this thread has linked to any scientific studies showing that nothing is absorbed after a certain point.

Some people have simply said "scientists say X", while others haven't.
That is not something that really convinces me, ya know? Some random person on the internet claiming to quote numbers from a real scientist.

Instead, I trust my own experiments, though they are not double-blind.
I have undertaken two types of experiments.

In the first, I shotgunned my girlfriend , just as described by the OP, and she got plenty high on 2 or 3 hits that I first held in for around 5 seconds. I, also, got high.

In the second, I tried smoking a much, much smaller amount that I normally would, but breaking it down into tiny amounts at a time. For example, I would normally take 2 hits to get high, but I took a pinch of weed - a little less than 1 hit's worth - and broke it up into 4 portions. Each was very, very tiny. I took one at a time, ghosting each hit. I did this because I was smoking in a public place, and couldn't exhale any smoke at all. I was successful, but surprisingly, I was too high to continue after the fourth hit. This is despite the fact that I smoked a bit less than half the amount I would normally smoke.

I have experienced the increase in effects when I hold my hits in for a long time.

Finally, the lungs are larger at the bottom, and have more absorbent capacity per area where they are larger, so it does not make sense to force the air towards the top.
Learned this in yoga class :)
(I suspect that anyone who has practiced yogic breathing will know the truth of this. )
 
Consensus

The consensus is roughly this:

~10 seconds to absorb most of it
~20 seconds to absorb nearly all of it
~30 seconds to absorb essentially all of it
 
My experiance is:
completely inhaling and immediately exhaling once lungs reach capacity gives the same high as holding it in for any amount of time except for the lack of oxygen headrush

tar and other nastiness from the smoking increases greatly for every second you hold it in.
 
i cantr even get high anymore enluss im ghosting bong hits or ghosting gravs
 
It has always seemed to make a difference when I hold my hits in, and every 5~ish seconds; take a small 'sip' of air, while not letting anything out. When I do this I'll usually hold it in for 20-30 seconds but I never feel the need to push myself just to get possibly a little bit higher... And sometimes I just blow my hits out pretty quickly.

When vaping with my mflb I tend to hold the hits in for about 10 seconds (though I don't count or anything haha, these are just guesses.) I feel like holding it in when vaping for longer tends to make more a difference as I will never cough from vaping unless holding it in.

Either way, I'm getting high.

Usually no more than 3 seconds because as you probably don't know it is just lack of oxygen getting you "higher" I mostly inhale and exhale as if I was breathing normally.

I totally agree!!! holding the hit in longer does not make you higher at all.
you just do more damage to your lungs....
 
I smoke joints like cigarettes pretty much and I get well fucked up. I think that most of the holding it in hype is about psychologically thinking "Oh yea i held it in so long im going to be so fucking baked oh yea" wich gets you higher.
I also think its pretty desperate to hold nasty tar stuff in your lungs for up to a minute just to get a bit higher...
 
Yeah i prob just pull one, breathe air on top, hold for a few seconds, release, mayb if ive got just a tenner or something left i might roast and hold for ages
 
This has been covered before, I am sure if you use the search engine, you can find yourself the answer.

The general consensus that several threads have come to is 2-3 seconds is more than enough time. Any further effects you feel are do to lack of oxygen, not from more absorbtion of THC, CBNs, or CBNS, or even THCV.

Glad to see there was some progressive chat here, but like I said, this is an old topic... so... /close.
