What is the optimum time for cooking cannabutter using a pan of weed and butter, which is placed in a pan of boiling water, without touching the bottom of that pan, therefore making sure it is not exposed to temperatures over 100 degrees centigrade. I've had good results using this method and cooking for about 6 hours once before.

Yeah, 4-6 houts does seem like a good time. Also it seems to not take very long to get most of the thc out of it, so an hour would probs get the vast majority of the thc out. I've had good results simmering it for just 20 minutes 8o I've heard that the optimal time is 23 hours for the water mixed with butter method, tbh it doesn't really matter to me how long I have to cook it to get the most out of it, since I want to make it in advance. Could even cook it all day then start cooking again the next day lol. I've heard that thc gets destroyed if cooked for too long though.

From my experience making a shit ton of pot food (whether milk, butter, oil, etc.) I've come to the conclusion that you probably get 75% of the cannabinoids out in the first hour but to get 95% or more, you need to cook it for at least 4 hours. It also really depends on what you are making, but that is for butter.
