Opioids How long does Morphine Sulfate IR last?

I take this medication and I was wondering if I took one how long it would take for my body to start feeling sick to need more? I have been a chronic pain patient for many years so I know I will get sick eventually but I have heard these have long legs even if they don't do much for the pain. Does anyone know about how long it will take before one 30 mg. IR Morphine pill wears off completely?
 
You take this medication, but don't know how long it lasts? One 30mg MS IR taken rectally would last me probably 5 hours ish. Taken orally probably like 4 hours, it's got a very short half life.

IR morphine doesn't have much legs at all, maybe more than other IR opioids, but it's the morphine ER that has long legs.

I just started the medication and that is why I wondered how long one would last. I only like to take one pill at a time to make them last as long as possible but take another before withdrawal sets in. That is why I asked if anyone knew how long one Morphine IR 30 lasts. I guess the best way to find out is to take one and wait past the every six hour dose until I start to feel like a "cold is coming on" and I will know how long they last.
 
^ this. I was just about to ask the same question. I have never known a chronic pain patient to be treated only with IR meds, the whole point in treating someone with chronic pain is to prescribe an extended release med to stop there being as many peaks and drops in the pain level, then ir for break through pain.

when I was on oramorph (liquid) for bt I would say it gave me a tiny bit of relief for maybe 2 hours. But I never found morphine very effective.
 
when i was taking morphine ER (MSCONTIN), the next day without taking a dose i would NOT be in withdrawl, however miserable and wanting to redose, but not sick. so for morphine ER, for ME, 48hrs after my dose i feel sick, unless im taking alot everyday, and building a tolerance rapidly, then i get sick the next day
 
I also take a long term med...right now the new Opana ER and they are making my stomach hurt with whatever it is they put in them so I am trying to just take the Morphine IR because my pain clinic won't let me come back early even if I take all the pills in for a switch. They are weird that way.

I know people on purely IR treatment regimens, a friend from my clinic is on 8x8mg hydromorphone a day and no ER meds.
 
I do actually know a cpp that is just prescribed hydromorphone too. What's the halflife on that? I wanted to give it a try but due to "cost" they won't prescribe it in this country. The government has gone mad on what gp's can prescribe due to cost, it is a load of bs!
 
I've suffered from bilateral Atypical Trigeminal Neuralgia (ATN) and bilateral Trigeminal Neuralgia (TN) aka "The Suicide Disease" for 26 years this month, following a Maxillofacial Jaw Reconstruction at age 17. I have also suffered from Occipital Neuralgia (ON) for approximately two years now, following a bilateral Gamma Knife Radiosurgery (GKR). I also have other diagnosis but none of them that require pain meds.
I have been taking Morphine Sulfate IR 30 mg. for 2.5 years now. I began at 30 mg. .bid and now I am up to 30 mg. .tid. I also take Maxalt MLT and Topamax for Migraines, Inderal LA for Essential Tremors (ET), Wellbutrin XL for Depression/Anxiety, Baclofen for nerve damage issues, and occasionally Lasix and Potassium for swelling in lower extremities following a Discectomy, Fusion, & Laminectomy in my L4-L5 & L5-S1.
I have never been offered an extended release pain medication along with my Morphine Sulfate IR. :?

I have a dumb question. I have never heard the term "long legs" until this morning. What does that mean when someone says a particular drug has "long legs"?
 
Seems like if OP is taking opana's, and has been on meds for a few years, For one withdrawals won't set in at all if you're taking your opana's as prescribed. Second you should know about the time frame on pain meds I you've been in management for yrs.
I guess I'm just kind of questioning the seriousness of this thread, maybe OP just bought a pill, and is worried about taking it and withdrawing? Don't know but doesn't sound right to me.... IMHO
