How long does it take your brain to recover and return to it's "normal" state?

Well the over past week, a friend of mine has been popping Xanax here and there to deal with his depression. After this weeklong binge, he has realized that it is not worth it to become addicted to benzos and decided to stop. He still doesn't feel "right" in a sense, kind of sluggish. He is wondering how long it will take for his brain to recover and return to it's normal state. Thanks, and as always, stay safe!
 
At that use, he'll be ship-shape in a bit over 2 weeks IMO, provided he abstains from other GABAergic drugs, which is a great idea.

How much was he using? Even for a week, it's important to rule out or estimate how likely he is to suffer discontinuation syndrome which can be fatal with seizures.

How much was he using during that week? If it was excessive enough in dosaging, I might recommend a rapid taper.
 
Some days would be better than others and he would dose only 2mg throughout the day. Some days were worse and he dosed up to 10mgs.
