Ok people have told me that if you take some apple juice and sit it out for a period of time it will turn to something similar to moonshine. Is this true? I have set out some for 2 days and I took a sip of it. Omg gosh was it sour!!! but if this is true is there an estimated time of when it will turn or become moonshinish?
My friend said he tried some of this guys stuff and said it fucked him up majorly. so I don't know? I asked him how long his friend left it out and he didn't know but he said it tasted like shit! it kinda figures! ya know
 
I'm afraid it's not that simple. It will take a bit longer than 2 days no matter what, more like 2 months of waiting. Here is a sample recipe I've found.
"The easiest best tasting..... Put 8 pounds of sugar in a 5 gallon carboy. Add 2 gallons of Barlow's Premium Apple Juice (This is made in Sonoma County California ) it is fresh whole heat pasturized Applejuice (not from concentrate) Plug the carboy and shake untill the sugar is disolved. Add another 2 gallons of Barlow's Premium Apple Juice. Prepare a package of Lalvin K1-V1116 and add it to the juice. (this yeast will tolorate 20% alcohol) Shake it again to mix it with all the juice. Put on an airlock and set it in a warm place 69 to 70 degrees. The best place is in front of a window so it has light behind it. All your friends will love sitting there watching it bubble. In about 8 weeks it will slow and settle. When it is clear enough for you to see through it it is ready...... As soon as you can start another batch because I guarantee your friends will not let this one last very long."
 
LOL ^^^^^ prolly not! but I was just wondering what if i don't add any of that stuff and just sit the apple juice out. would it do the same?
and sorry I am only 15 lol but what is a carboy and what is Lalvin K1-V1116 and lol sorry hwo to you put on an airlock? sorry i am very clueless. and also are you tellign me how to make mooonshine? :P

Alright maybe I can shed some light on this. Well to first answer your questions CrankItUp, a carboy is basically a glass version of a water cooler, Lalvin K1-V1116 is a variety of wine yeast, and putting an airlock in is pretty simple, though unfortunately for someone who's never done it, or probably has no idea what an airlock looks like, it can be a little hard to explain. If you're really interested just head on over to www.brewery.org, there is a lot of information there, and it might help you get started. Also technically you can't make moonshine, as moonshine requires you to distill the alcohol of your mash. What you would be making is just hard apple cider.
 
well damn^^^ hard apple cyder! and I got all excited! yeah but would I beable to buy wine yeast? at my age?
 
if you let it sit long enough, it will contain alcohol. it may also contain a dangerous fungus.
they do it a lot in prison.
 
I don't think it should be a problem to buy wine yeast, even at your age. And if worse comes to worse you could always say you're doing a science project for school on the biology of funguses and yeast.
 
hehe, we did it in jail(I just got out) and it was horrible, but It fucked us up. What we did was save our fuit and juice, clean out a trash can and throw it all in there with a little water. Then, we threw some dinner rolls in there and covered it with a book and let it sit for a month. Nasty shit! Or if I had some extra Ramen Noodles I would just go see "ACE" and get an Oxy. I wouldn't recomend this, as it can be dangerous!
 
oh jeez, go to the freaking library already and check out a book on home winemaking/brewing.
at least it will get you familiar with the equipment and processes.
and if you were to boil something with alcohol in it, the alcohol would evaporate, since alcohol has a lower boiling point than that of water.
besides, if you do it right, it won't be contaminated at all.
 
Yeah I kinda think its grose what you guys have told me. about the fungus stuff! so I don't think I am goign to do it and anyways why waste my time when I could just go and buy ever clear instead. From my friends oppinion its better than moonshine. lol damn I am such an alcoholic!
 
no kidding crankitup, why don't you just go out and buy some alcohol. And you said you can get a hold of everclear? where do you live where you can get that? isn't that stuff illegal in a shit load of states in the US?
 
or you could just get mommy or daddy's permission to make a home still.
there's no brain sugery involved and after maybe 2months and $50-$100 dollars u can make some decent moonshine that u need to dillute if u don't want alcohol poisoning after the first shot.
all u really need is some yeast, lots of sugar, and grain/rice/potatoes/etc... for the starch and other nutrients it needs.
if you actually research into it yourself i gurentee that you'll know tons more about distilling, yeasts/bacteria, fermentation, and some basic chemistry.
and if u don't figure out the difference between methanol and ethanol and their boiling points you won't be around to bug anyone else.
o yes, that was a word of caution hidden inside a snide remark
just remember, READ, LEARN, and UNDERSTAND before you try and undertake this.
and methanol crosses over before the ethanol.
 
I live in georgia and yeah here it is but its hard to find in stores thats why we (me and friends) buy it on the street.(unopened so no other chemicals could have passed through it)

I didn't realize that everclear was that hard to come by in some places, or that it was even banned in some states. Buying it on the streets? Wow. Here in Ks, you can buy a half gallon of it at any liquor store for about 20-30 dollars.

Sweet!! Drunken bums rule, but they smell kinda funky, tee hee. At least now I know I'm not the only one who resorted to that.
