How long does it take for you're lungs to absorb the thc from one puff or hit.

I have a cold at the moment and I got some pretty strong greenz to see if it might calm the symptoms down a bit, but whenever I take a hit from the bong I cough out the smoke like 1 second after.
P.S am I aloud to talk in first person ?
