How is it getting put to sleep for getting wisdom teeth out?

I was given Brevital along with morphine when I got my 2 bottom wisdom teeth taken out. Before that, I was given 10 mg diazepam in the waiting room.

ok I JUST got back from getting my wisdom teeth pulled and my mouth is SO numb that i feel NO pain at all. I dont feel that messed up anymore but pretty tired.

All i remember was they stuck the needle in me and i was shaking then they put the oxygen mask over me and then they are waiting for me to fall asleep and then im thinking why am i not falling asleep! then 10 seconds later i fall asleep without realizing it. Then i wake up in a bed and didnt know how i got there.

I feel extreme;y numb in my mouth right now but thats really it.

how long will my face be numb and

what did they shoot me with and then they said now you may start to get itchy. but before i felt what it felt like i fell asleep

I'm sure you got the fentanyl/versed, but "now you might feel itchy"?, maybe you got morphine/versed instead.

Too bad you can't remember the way all the narcotic felt, huh? Stupid midazolam.

wtf i didnt get put to fucking sleep for this shit. i smoked some weed, took 200mg DXM, and told the nurse to put that NO2 on high hahahaha. i got to listen to my ipod, so i played some tunes, relaxed and fadded away into my memories. i could feel the dentist ply that shit out but i was so far away i couldn't say anything....

Not sure if this is the right place for this thread but

So im getting kinda nervous because Ive never had any type of surgery before and am curious as to how it is getting put to sleep and how you will feel when you wake up and for how long

When I was put out for my wisdom teeth, I was really nervous about A. getting the teeth taking out and B. getting sedated, so they used a nice strong midazolam/fentanyl combo on me, which was nice. (Generally a benzo and opiate combo would be used for these procedures according to my grandma, who was a dental surgeon.)

They gave me a Ringer's lactate IV (just regular hydration fluids) for about 5 mins or so before starting. Then they started with the Versed (midazolam). Once that was injected via IV push, there was a 1.5 or so second time interval where I went from feeling a nice, warm, relaxing alcohol buzz feeling to total (but euphorically comfortable) unconsciousness (I wasn't actually unconscious, it just appeared so to me, hence the name "conscious sedation"; I could still interact with the surgeon and nurses apparently, though I have no memory of it whatsoever). When I hit the "unconscious" stage, I felt simply asleep, just like I do every night. I didn't dream however; I was just, well... asleep. Then I remember waking up in a recovery area, feeling slightly euphoric. I didn't feel any jaw pain because the lidocane they injected into the gum was still working. However, the midazolam causes quite astounding anterograde amnesia, so while I remember that I was awake and feeling supposedly normal, I can't remember to whom I talked in the recovery room or anything (one of my mom's work friends was there and I was apparently talking to her, but I don't remember it). After I got home, I took some Vicodin (5/325 combo; I have no tolerance) and slept. When I woke up two hours later, I felt perfectly normal (well, except for the pain radiating from my jaw :P).

Don't let it scare you, the sedation is actually quite fun. After this is over with you'll be wishing you could get sedation meds all the time! =D (well not really; if midazolam or fentanyl become abused, you'll be in for the addiction from hell)

Laughing gas isn't anything to worry about either, but it doesn't work that well on me.

that sucks. I dont remember ANYTHING from the surgery. I still remember my last thoughts until i went to sleep.

And now i already am feeling better and i havent even taken any of the pain medication. No swelling either.

Looks like i got real lucky

yeah i love sedation meds. the 10 seconds after they injected me with something i was started to feel real sedated but before it got really euphoric at all i fell asleep. Then when i woke up in the recovery place i was kinda out of it and real sedated.

i dont know but they gave me 10mg hydrocodone which i dont need at all because im really in like no pain at all. no swelling either

i think im just one of the lucky ones though

Its werid but I had all of my teeth pulled out and I had oxycodone so as soon as I got out I ate a few. Guess what the pain was horriable so I took the hydrocodone 10mg two every 4 hours and for whatever reason that was controlling the pain much better than my oxycodone. One of the most painful surgery recovery I ever had. I was miserable. Not to mention my hubby had to go to work shortly after leaving me to care for our 6 kids oh that was not fun at all. My goofy mom would only watch them the day of the surgery and then sent them home. They are pretty good kids too. They Knocked me out with fentanal sp and that jackson drug. I don't remember the surgery at all.

When do your wisdom teeth have to be taken out or do they have to be taken out at all in every case? I have mine come through and they feel like normal teeth at the moment.

when i got mine out they said heres some oxygen. they didnt even tell me it was the anesthetic i just went to sleep not even realize theyd given it to me.
when i woke up i felt good cuz i was on fentinyl. & u can say u still have pain for a booster. ;)
may as well. than i got given oxycodone to take home. 5mg isntant release. then i got prescribed oxycontin 30mg. so i was quite happy for a week.
theres nothing scary about getting put to sleep. the annoying part is u cant eat solid foods.

dude its easy had 4 of them pulled out at once all i remember was counting to 5 and then waking up a lil lost an confused lol. but the days after it sucks cuz you start to feel the pain :( but its not that bad

I never was put to sleep for having teeth out, I've had about 6 or 7 teeth pulled at different times, the latest time was an abcess that wouldn't go away and had swelled up so that had to surgically drain it and pull the tooth, they were going to give me "twilight sedation" till I seen how much they was gonna charge me 300 for the pulling and 3,000 for the anesthesia, so I was like heeeeeell nah, just numb me up sun. My first time ever getting my teeth out was my wisdom teeth and that was in prison, the prison dentist gave me a script of tylonol 3's after and I was high as shit cause I had 0 tolerance, but generally they numb you up enough that you don't feel anything anyways you just feel the pressure of the cracking of your tooth from the jawline keeeeeeerrrraaaaaaack and it snaps out blood fills the mouth gauze goes in... easy as pie...
