How important is your post count to you?

Strange question, yeah.....

Some person came to me once n said the following:

"I've contributed loads to this forum whereas you've contributed nothing - just look at my post count compared with yours!"
(This is a made up exemplar to illustrate my point).

So how important is post count to you n do you find it's a defining factor on how much a person has contributed?

Personally I think that quality is what matters n that post count is a number but just curious as to what others think on the subject?

I had an incident like that,- in an opiate discussion, a member pointing out who you would believe to be accurate.. Themselves, who had been a member for years, or myself with just 100 posts back then.

You have to take into account that the number of times you've posted on BL Does Not in any way indicate your knowledge & experience with drugs.

Eg:the lounge.

Not that important that I don't hit reset every 4-5 years or so with a new account.

There is usually a sweet spot of about 6000 post before someone becomes a parody of themselves.
 
Out of fear of crashing the system when my postcount hits 2000 I try to keep a low posting count
 
i am sort of shocked at the amount of them most being just music but by god have i spouted some shite in here at times lol :)

just look at mine and td they have been here 5 years longer than me and ive got 3 times the amount of post but i bet theres make more sense and more entertaining than all mine put together
 
You'd like to think that post count doesn't matter, but it totally does. Joining date too. Bluelight is a microcosm of every day society. If some new kid suddenly makes an appearance in your group and starts spouting off, they're going to be silenced/snubbed pretty quickly. Older members will get more of a chance. Likewise on here.

I've both witnessed and participated in the bullying of new members on various forums (I like to think that I'm not a cunt these days, so it doesn't happen). If anything, these days I try to support and protect newer members, because I quite often see people treating them with shitty attitudes, whilst simultaneously showering the more senior members with a level of praise and admiration which could be considered straight up arse licking. It's basic social dynamics, unfortunately.

I've witnessed a good many forums over the years die by this very mechanism. Bluelight isn't one of them, I guess because drug use is so widespread that this place always has an influx of new members. I've seen EADD shed its skin on numerous occasions now. But generally when you have a forum full of older members, and new members are no longer signing up, it's because the old members are so established and clicky that the place is completely terminal.

Like I say, bluelight is different because it's so vast, and there are actually a lot of good people here. But it does happen.

Personally, though, quality > quantity, every time.

It isn't important to me either, as if I'd be so openly narcissistic to admit if it did. If I did care about it, then I'd never delete any posts I've made, just edit the content ;)

As Tranced says, other peoples' may be subconsciously important. The join date is an interesting one as I am glad of it, not 'proud', but glad because I've had such craic on here over the years.

I like to think I treat everybody the same. If I think someone's a gobshite, then their post count is irrelevant. I find I'm also rare to have any public beef with anyone. There are times that I can't bite my tongue but I like to send a PM to someone who's pissed me off.
 
I can honestly say that I don't pay much mind to it.

I might notice someone's post count if they are a Greenlighter, or a battle-scarred veteran. Most of the time, I barely notice anyone's post count. I'm sure there are a few guys who treat it as though it were an extension of their boypart; but I'm usually more interested in the content of their postings. And this is coming from a certified arithmomaniac .....
 
Given that I have around 50k posts on a different forum my post count here actually makes me feel better about myself, thinking about the other one and I feel (no...am) a right sad cunt.
 
ok...... I do have a kinda obsessive nature.... so on certain place (eBay) I've got obsessed with the number crunching (no less than 100% positive feedback) n yeah, when it comes to that sorta thing it's important.... but surely quality is more important.... I'd much rather read 10 posts of common sense, knowledge, intelligence than say 5,000 posts of complete n utter drivel....

Foolsey - you're posts are decent, please STOP putting yourself down like that or I'm gna come up there and smack your bum yea? STOP IT! NOW! We like your posts. You bring interesting discussion.... As for the music - well we all like to hear different stuff so 'tis all good....

I never seen your post about someone with leukaemia, but nonetheless, you do have a lot of decent, interesting posts, Foosley. You're so down on yourself. Why? You're an interesting person, well liked n wanted here. you're posts are interesting, trust me. Even your problem posts because, although you may not realise it, they help others, as well as you.

I'd rather have made two thousand really good posts, than twenty thousand terrible ones. In fact, even if there were still the same 2 000 good posts among the 20 000, I still wouldn't be able to feel so good about them, just for thinking how much better the other 18k should have been.

Proper respect, though, to anyone who can manage both quantity and quality ..... cranking out several really good ones one after another in a single day really is no mean feat, so kudos to those rare few among you who genuinely can pull it off.
