How glamorizing drugs is killing black kids

Can we get a round of applause for this mans genius?
I can actually see where this article is coming from, although most of the violence associated with drug sales can be linked to its illegality.

Also rick Ross is one of the wackest mother fuckas rappin

Nicka brings shame to my game.
Of all the rappers he could possibly pick, this kid chose to idolize a mediocre one who used to be a prison guard.

I always laugh when Meek Mill comes on one of his songs and completely one-ups him. He isn't even that impressive lyrically; his delivery is just much more energetic that Ross's.

I feel like a lot of people (probably the author too) are unaware that the rapper and the crack kingpin from the 90s are two entirely different people.

Did you read this? It quite explicitly spells out that Rick Ross the rapper is not Rick Ross the crack kingpin.

Those people who do criminal acts DESERVE to be in jail. Not those people who are using a substance. If the cops stop hassling people for putting things into their own body, maybe they'd have time to catch the real criminals.

I really don't see your position.
Crime means against the law.

Crime means against the law.

There was a certain law in the 1940s that prevented african american children from going to schools with white children.. Just because its a law doesnt mean its sensible, reasonable, or even remotely founded in reality. Are you familiar with the term civil disobedience?

Let's not confuse one another by using the term 'crime' to reflect our morality; it reflects the law.

Civil disobedience is not necessarily criminal behavior.

It seems likely that drugs produced an increase of violence for the illegal market.

This has to be the best argument you have ever given. Right up there with, "she edits posts to say the opposite of what they were before I completely lost my case based on clear evidence." That one is even more convincing.

Just trying to do your job, since you are a moderator on the "recovery support" circuit. I am not doing anything new, obviously, by making it into a joke. Now, let's not derail a perfectly good thread because your buddies got some sand in their breeches.

I have heard it suggested that drugs creating a violent region in the black market many times and it is easy enough to consider the ins and outs of that and still manage to bring it back around to rap lyrics.

"All I do is get high, and think of fading you all"

If your going to accuse me of something I would make sure I did what you think.. Since it is "even more convincing," Im kinda reluctant to not be able to take credit for another posters ideas, as I think that was someone else.

I'm afraid you will have to explain this to me pmose as it does not make a lick of sense to me. But if your ripping on the recovery sections here at Bluelight you have hit a new pathetic low. We most likely do more good in a day then you have manged to do your whole depressed life.

And pmose I dont ware breeches or tighty whitey either.. and its so cold around here It would be almost an impossibility, more likely than the current drug war having a positive result i give you, but pretty much impossible for me to get sand in my boxers, snow yes.. and no.

but getting back to the breeches..

But the boots look kinda handy for all the bulshit that sometimes gets dropped around here.;)

Black markets are associated with violence. The reason behind this is the competition guaranteed by free market laws is not enforced. This causes turf wars where rival competitors create and protect the monopoly of their territory and wipe out competition so they can be the only vendor selling and thus become a monopoly in an area and able to then sell more quantity, lower quality, at a higher price and not sharing any of the customers with competition.

Black market vendors are also prized buy criminals looking to rip them off as they are afforded little or no protection or retribution for crimes committed against them. Since they are outside the law and the laws and law enforcement does not protect them they protect themselves. The also have their own violent disciplinary system for dealing with thieves and competition. This turns into a never ending stream of violence as one side hits the other and then that side hits back and then the other side hits back for that.. and so on and so forth.

its not the drugs Pmose.. its the prohibition and drug war coupled with demand that causes the violence.

Im just going to start quoting you all the time as you seem incapable of leaving your posts alone. This is after quite a few alterations so we will call this Pmose vs 3.5

EDIT: I think that the fact that Black culture often values the material bullshit that the illegal drug trade says it can provide is something that needs to be addressed by the black community to help themselves with this struggle.

Just wanted to say that Malcolm X dealt with all the same problems in his own African American community concerning the black market, gambling, drugs, etc....and that was in the 1940's, long before rap music in the 80's (and the rap we're talking about as promoting drug use is mainly from the late 90's-2000's anyway)

The most materialistic drug promoting rapper I know is white, Riff Raff rap game king tut He's a huge clown and most people think he's a joke but I see talent in him, great pop party coke sniffin music.

"Shoulda bought a yaut,
Chose to sniff a ship,
Pop pop another pill while I'm takin foreign trips!" My n***a

so materialism is an affliction that only strikes black people in amerikkka?

Did I say that or are you putting words in my mouth?

No consumerism is a plague in so much of america as well as the rest of the world, but it does seems to be really strong within certain ethnic segments.

EDIT: love the huge double standard.. cant say anything negative about non white groups even if IMO it is absolutely true without being called out as a racist and part of the KKK. While it seems that different ethnic groups are allowed to state their negative opinions about whites without this being condoned as racism. Guess whites are the only people capable of being racist. I am not a racist but I'm also not falling for that "politically correct" double standard and I will call it as I see it.

plenty of rappers talk about the dark side of drug dealing - they just don't often give it the sad tone it deserves because they Didn't die - they're rich and successful, so it's more of a triumphant tone.
