How does your local society view ecstasy?

I was just laying here in bed listening to some music when a very strange memory popped into my head. It goes way back to my first year in high school when my science teacher made us do projects on why drugs are bad. My friend and I choose ecstasy (at the time I was the perfect child not even a drop of alcohol haha).

So we did our project and got a decent mark on it, but that makes me wonder exactly how my community views ecstasy and even other drugs because that was just my school district pushing a silly propaganda-like unit on a bunch of 13 year olds to get them to believe that all illegal drugs are bad.

I know about 25% of my grad class at least tried ecstasy once many of which has done it more than once. So I guess what I am trying to figure out is are the people of my community aware of how many people have tried ecstasy? And if they knew would the public opinion about it shift like it has for marijuana?

Please feel free to share a similar story and if you want to share how you think your community/society would react if they knew how many people (or few I guess) have tried or use ecstasy regularly.
 
Most people view it has it destroys brain cells, u get addicted to it like shooting heroin and that ur tripping and that you get horny on it and want to fck everything that moves. Some people would flip shit if they knew, I mean the uneducated ones. That's what I hate about society, they take up every bullshit the government says and get brainwashed by the media so easily. I used to be part of them, very close minded on any drugs with basically the only excuse of ''drugs are bad, mkay?'' , until I became more open minded and knowledgeable about it. Internet is a wonderful thing to learn on.
 
ppl think it ruins your seratonin release system to the point that you can never really enjoy life ever again. And all of the above^
 
"Ecstasy puts holes in your brain and makes you stupid." Yep, OK, the first person to really experiment with it is probably one of the smartest people alive today.

The whole "Face Facts" government campaign around here is retarded, enough said. I could name 10 incorrect things on that billboard without even thinking about it.

I have had to hide even the music I like from my parents due to "if you listen to that you'll end up doing drugs and destroying your life". If they found out I was at a rave, they would flip - even though I'm an adult, have my own house, own car, and a fulltime job. My sister told me if I ever touched ecstasy she would beat me up.

The strange part about this is that my grandfather, my stepfather, and my younger brother are all alcoholics. Oh the irony.
 
^I can't count how many times I've heard this ecstasy puts holes in your brain thing...if that was true, I'd have gone through about 20 brains by now lol.
 
I remember talking to my mum about ecstasy and she was ranting about it, pretty much spewing nonsense she'd heard. And at the time, I had just graduated university, never really drank, never smoked weed, never got into trouble. I was a generally nice kid, responsible and trustworthy, sensible. (Only later in my mid-20s did I go off the rails, after she had died thank God)

But the point is, I interrupted her and told her that I did ecstasy at festivals and explained the ways I try to say as safe as possible and explained how it makes you feel. She was completely stunned at first, but not angry, we were always open with each other, and finally she accepted that it probably wasn't as harmful as "they" make it out to be.

Pretty much everyone who doesn't know someone who does mdma or doesn't do it themselves, that doesn't have an interest in researching it, will take a dim view of it and think it's a dangerous party drug irresponsible people do.

Holes? Nah.

It just creates areas of your brain that have little to no blood flow, and on the early brain scans it looked as if there were "holes" in the brain because of the almost complete lack of blood in that area.

I guess I'll take the opposite stance from everyone else.... over here, ecstasy is viewed as harmless. At least among the youth... they will roll every week and take 6+ pills a night, but oh, it's OK!! It's just E!!


Fucking stupid as hell. Especially because none of them even take MDMA but meth and piperazines instead. People think it's fucking harmless or something, just like most of the other drugs they do.... except for the fact that they're all completely scared shitless by LSD.





MDMA might not be the WORST drug out there (but you can sure as HELL make the argument that it is.), but if abused it can easily turn your brain to mush and destroy your life. Just like ANY drug, and yes, I do mean the ones the doctor gives you as well.




Proper harm reduction advice is the key, you shouldn't lie to the kids... but both sides of this debate do it constantly.

Yeh, everyone associates raves with drugs nowadays.. thanks to the media. Like I told my roomate sup blabla, told her I,m going to a rave next week and she and her sister flipped shit like .'I hope you won't do drugs! hahaha''. Like that just shows how ignorant people can be, of course I won't go buy ''E'' or ''molly'' off that kid in the corner, cause it's 99% amp or meth laced dirty shit.

Fuck that's a good point. People who take "ecstasy" and lots of it not believing the damage mdma can do because they've done "it" excessively for years with not too many dramas. Then they get "real" mdma crystals and eat a gram of it.

Yet another reason prohibition is a bad fucking idea. There are all these flow on effects that only serve to harm users. I discover new ones every day it seems.
 
ALL drugs can be harmful in frequent high dosages. not just E as Folley stated, but ALL drugs hurt your brain in different ways.

i love the pic of the brain scan. if you look closley at the MDMA scan, you can see there is way MORE blood flow in that one little section of the brain...........
 
here in chicago e falls into the category of "well its a bad drug but its also a pill so its not as bad as the *really* bad drugs... like i know pretty straightedge girls that wont touch coke because of the sketchyness that is associated with it but they will pop rolls and addys all day long...

but yea its wierd... none of the kids i see taking rolls have any of those perceptions here... i was out with 4 20-21 year old girls and they were all rolling... they go out and love to roll but otherwise are totally good girls...
 
Im in adelade, australia! I have never used mdma before but have spoken openly to my parents about the drug (if i ever decide to take it/try it) etc my mum in her earlier years was a bit if a party animal and has said to me that if i ever decide to take a drug to try Ecstacy because its awesome and everyone in life shud try it at least once and she comapred it to "if heaven existed being on E is it"
Was shocked this coming from my mum but its funny to see even adults can have a different perception of mdma
 
Well, where I live you can basically get anything you want on the street corner. It's pretty live and let live around here, but there are still plenty of upper-crusty humans that think it's only for "club kids", college kids or people that "can't handle reality" and just puts holes in your brain.

Where I used to live E was pretty much vilified by the majority. Even the benign cannabis was still seen through the skewed lens of reefer madness... thank god I moved.
 
most people are naive idiots, unless you try something you dont understand it. its all very well saying "IF YOU TAKE ONE PILL YOU WILL DIE AND THE WORLD WILL END" but ive done a few in my time, and i feel completely normal, my world didnt end, i didnt die, it hasnt ruined my life. its ignorance thats all.
