I'm just curious what people think.
I'm wondering how academic the experience is for anyone anymore. I found as I first delved into psychedelia, the most overt justifications were academic, and the most familiar i came with the experience the less it had become academic or objective in any context and totally a psycho game.
What do you guys think? Do you really justify your drug use philosophically anymore? or have you given up?
how "academic"? Not much at all, unsure how anyone could really see it as "academic", but i'm presuming you just meant that in some vague "how much one can learn" sense. So I'll just go on that.
when first trying psychedelics (~15y/o), they were not taken for any deep reasons like developing my ego or widening/changing perspectives. They were taken for kicks, as they are for most people getting into them, but that didn't change or negate their strong effects upon ego/perspective. Over time, that became as much of a reason as "for kicks". I won't say that it ever "surpassed being just for kicks", because that's misleading - the truth is that ego development / perspective shifting / etc ARE a kick! As time / experience increased, i learned how to trip in such a manner as to really enhance the ego/perspective aspects of it, and, while so much fun, this became what consider the most valuable aspect - it is the reason i advocate their (proper)usage.
So, yes, I "justify" it philosophically, although tbh i don't understand why you woudl suggest it needs justification in the 1st place. At this point, a session has much more profound effects on me, both because i've learned how to use for the goals i have, and, with experience*, comes the ability to take stronger dosages/combinations in a PROPER manner, increasing my results further.
(*i am referring to the experience gleaned from a decade of occasional usage, like generally a couple times annually for such purposes - times when just "partying" because someone has a ton of acid, those several sessions-in-a-month times don't give the same positive results, and are much closer to just "partying" imo)
But anyway i can get far more out of trips now that i know how to use them appropriately, and not only does that make it "philosophically justified", it makes me morally compelled. It would have been very nice to have had this grasp on using psychedelics, back when life would have allowed me to experiment more. Think i can be content with / find once annually to be sufficient tho, and yes i would/will do this indefinitely so long as lifestyle scenario allows it.
(and fwiw my favorite 'flavors' are lsd and mushrooms, usually stacked with mdma/mda. I find lower doses fun for going and fucking around, but they're not how i typically use them as i find 'heroic' dosages to be far more useful in such regards)
