I put my mini bong in the dishwasher before my washer reeked. I would suggest emptying the water every time you use it, then put a couple laundry sheets in the mouth piece.

obviously rubbing alcohol and salt are the way to go, but if you have a new bong, never leave water in it, only fill it up when you're gonna use it then afterwards empty it out. You'd be amazed. Also, it prevents the eventual spilling of rank bongwater on something that shouldn't smell like bongwater (anything)

i've had bad experience with bowling glass-pieces to clean them.

i've noticed they tend to crack (not break, just crack all over) the second you set them on any kind of surface after you take it out.

You have to let your glass cool down in the water before taking it out

or if u pour a cap full of mouth wash in with the water it will smell and taste minty.

thats because the glass cant cool off that fast and the stress of shrinking cracks the glass
leave that shit in the pot until you can stick your hand in and grab it. and it should be cherry.

we have a roor with a diffuser and an ash catcher with four down-stem diffusers...rather difficult to keep clean if they are not cleaned regularly. we used oxy clean for a long time and it works great. as of late we have used a formula from roor that is delightfully reusable. its a thick brown fluid and you just let everything soak. after that you can run the fluid through a strainer and back into the bottle and use it many times. i believe it is called grunge-off.

if your just looking to make it smell a bit better rather than cleaning it,then a drop of menthol eucalyptus oil works wonders.it helps to soothe the throat as well.
