How does one KEEP a bong smelling fresh?

I started cleaning my glass weekly. Eventually it got to the point where I was so anal about my quality glass that it's all clean and dry except for the one I'm using that day.

I guess you could say I go through a lot of alcohol & salt. Something about the taste of properly grown cannbis through quality glass that makes me smlie.

not to be an asshole, I'm really just curious, but do you know how this would work? Chemically and physically H2O2 just doesn't seem like it has the correct properties

Never put a glass piece in boiling water. Always put it in at room temp. then continue to boil the water. The drastic change in temp. busts the glass. I only know b/c my cousin blows glass and I asked her one time.

Yeah, I was a dishpig for awhile -- washing dishes definitely requires a pocket bong :) Sorry, crap joke but I could not resist.
 
I wash my bongs with dawn dish detergent quickly after I use it. ., kinnda like doing the dishes lol. leaves & Keeps it really clean
 
When I smoked bongs I'd just throw out the dirty water after I was done smoking.

If it was glass I swirled around rubbing alcohol and salt.

With acrylic bongs I would just use q-tips soaked in rubbing alcohol on the metal pipe part and then rinse out the bong with hot tap water. Even with bongs that were not made out of glass I wouldn't let the dirty ice or water sit in there for awhile like some people like to do.

I was told that ISO alcohol can weaken or break the acrylic plastic used in bongs. I've never boiled any glass pipes or bongs as rubbing alcohol and salt work fine. Even with metal pipes I would just soak them in ISO alcohol sometimes for an hour or sometimes overnight depending on how much reside was inside.
 
I'm pretty OCD about keeping my piece clean. Fuck smoking out of a dirty bong with dirty bong water. I have 10" one, which is pretty easy to clean, but having the following helps.

-toothbrush
-isopropyl alcohol
-salt or rice (abrasive to get the resin off)
-a coupla paper towels

I usually run hot water through my piece for a while, then just swish around the alcohol with the abrasive, throw a paper towel in with the toothbrush and scrub/wipe the resin off. Just be sure not to use something that'll scratch the glass. Also, you don't need a fuckton of alcohol/salt, a little works, then pour out the dirty bit and put clean stuff in if you need more.

Fuck yes. Also it sickens me to see a roor or other nice gong dirty it ruins the beauty.

I boiled my pipe once, and I let it sit in there for about 7 minutes after the water reached a boil. And it didn't gel al the resin that is still glued to the sides.

I am currently have a lot of trouble clean my slider on my bong and get rid of the stench. If I had a few hours to myself at home, I would try soaking it in different chemicals.
 
used to use iso 90+ and salt + warm water let it sit, swirl it, etc.

If you have anything other then a straight piece/bong, eg something with percs and diffiusers, get something called Grundge Off. It's hands down the best stoner product I have ever used. Think of it like draino for your bong. Makes it look brand new. Best part is, you can reuse it over and over again so one bottle lasts years. You're going to have to find it on your own but i'm sure that won't be hard.
 
DONT waste your money on any stupid bong cleaning solutions they are a total waste.
the best thing to do is to pour a BUNCH of epsom salt into your bong and downstem and percolator if you have one, then get some isopropyl alcohol and pour it in so that its got a decent amount in there. then you just plug the top hole where your mouth goes and the hole where the downstem goes and just shake shake shake it up! but not too vigorously, the alcohol dissolves resin and thc and tar that is gunked up in there, and the salt, especially when you use a lot, is a very abrasive agent, so shaking it around just wipes all the resin off. so they work very well together, and a thing of epson salt is like a few bucks, and 91% isopropyl alcohol is like 3 bucks for a whole liter of it.

in the end it looks like a BRAND NEW BONG. for real. its amazing.

other things you can do are to make sure you change the water often, DONT suck your ashes into the bong, just empty the bowl into the garbage or ash tray when its cashed, and ONLY smoke high grade marijuana through there. no regular dro, and DEFINITELY no shitty mids or any crappy weed like that.

The price of one bottle of the stuff I was talking about (Grundge off) is the cost of salt and iso alcohol. It does the job far better, no shaking, and it is 100% reuseable. Buying one bottle can last a year easily and keep your bong/bongs perfectly new looking.

I always have used iso + salt and hot water + shaking or the boiling method of my glass.... However, now that I have precoolers, 9-arm perc trees, triple diffisusers, etc... Well now-a-days there are much better cleaning products out there then there used to be. I used to agree that it was a waste to buy a cleaning product but some of these are 100% re-usable. I spent less then the cost of a bottle of iso + salt + gas to the store to get a bottle of Grundge off and it's lasted me an entire year thus far... Certainly not a waste.
 
I have a 4ft Glass (Double Bubble Base) Bong with Color Changing Glass and the absolute best way to Clean a "Glass" Bong is:

One Bottle - 91%+ Isopropyl Alcohol (purchase @ Walgreens)
3 Tablespoons of (Table) Salt
Two Plastic Baggies
Two Rubber Bands
One Pipe Cleaner

Pour 75% of the bottle into the Bong (this will vary depending on the size of bong)
Place 3 (or 4) tablespoons of Salt into the Bong
Place a Plastic Baggie around the Top of the Bong and on the Stem using a Rubber Band to hold it in place.

Then Start Shaking Away..... Making Swirling Motions (clockwise and counter clockwise) with the Bong.
Do this for at least 5-10 minutes.
Remove Plastic from around the Top of the Bong and Stem
-Use a Pipe Cleaner to Clean Out The Steam
Then Pour Out All the Alcohol into the Toilet
Then Fill Bong with Warm Water and Make Swirling Motions (clockwise and counter clockwise) with the Bong.
Repeat this Step (at least) Three Times to Flush Out All The Alcohol and Salt.

You now have a "Perfectly" Clean Bong without Spending A Bunch Of Money On Bullshit Cleaning Products.
 
Microwave 70-90% iso for no more than 15-17 seconds (seriously, iso is flammable), it really helps clean the bong better. Also try to use rock/kosher salt, or something coarse.
 
isopropyl alcohol 91% and grainy dishwasher detergent works very very well. but id just stick with the alcohol and salt method. dont want to give any advice that could blow up. not sure if any detergents have chemicals that react with alcohol. im no scientist so im just covering my ass.
 
Gonna throw one of my past mistakes in here.

I had a very grimy bong (looked disgusting, smell made people gag).
I think my body was just about handling it, but after taking 1.5g of MDMA and still smoking my horrible bong I got Bronchitis which resulted in lack of oxygen to the brain. Spent about a week off all drugs when I got sober enough to realize I was ill since I was getting stoned every evening and then spending the next day unable to stand up and breathe properly in work.

Just throwing it out there that bongs can get very nasty :P
 
I've always found Goo Gone to be really effective for this purpose. It's non-toxic and leaves a nice citrusy smell :)
