You will only know if you can spend time with him outside of a work environment. There are millions of signs and they vary man to man. Every man has a different way of flirting and every way of flirting has context to it (the manner in which it was done... ie- friendly, lustful, romantic....) So there is no way to tell for sure, other than straight up asking. But, the time portion is a good teller as well....
90% of guys keep MINIMAL girls as friends only. Most guys only hang out with girls that they see as date prospects later on. Be it you or your friend, so make sure you get alone time.
I have literally 2 girls that I keep as friends. Randoms that I hang out with here and there, but I would never spend an immense amount of time with a female I was not interested in, and getting alone time with him will surely bring out whther it is friendship or romance. And I think most guys here will agree. If you want to break the barrier between seeing if it's friendship or love, you also need to quit the job. Nothing good can come from having a supervisor in a relationship with you. If it ends badly that creates a swirl of shit that you now have to deal with.
