How do you structure your psychedelic experiences?

with N,N,DMT i go into them expecting to be amazed, shocked, taught, my mind opened

I approach them as Huxley described it, an "opening of the doors of perception." I see psychedelics as removing the normal "filtering" and "guiding" processes in which our thoughts and perceptions are structured and constrained according to something that we are trying to do (eating, working, etc.) Tripping disrupts these "intentional constraints" on both thoughts and perceptions, and allows one to experience a more raw, direct experience of "all that is", instead of what my agenda "wants it to be."

Does anyone trip only because he/she loves to try new psychedelics? I do. :) Though this isn't the only reason...

I love all the answers in this thread!

Personally, I do it for new understanding, to be general. That means that I want to understand a drug I've never tried/only tried once or twice/tried many times better, or I want to understand the world, or just understand myself.

I trip to learn what i need to to with my life to fulfill my higher purpose :) That and to receive healing and transformation through aligning my spirit, mind, body, and emotions.

i go about structuring such by my means of preparation...i ready my self through dietary stability (fasting, or eating clean prior to experience), sexual stability (abstinence for a few days before, to calm my hormones), drug-use stability (i don't really do of what i would call a drug, but i regulate my cannabis and caffeine intake before experiences), and sleep cycle stability (at least make sure i'm not all tired and strung out lol). These are my prerequisites, but i also partake only when i feel the time is right...ie meditate on it.

the exception to the rule for myself, is feeling a 'calling' towards the intake of a particular plant, in which case if it feels right to do so, i do so without extensive preparation.

the 'putting into context' of which you speak, for myself, is intensive meditations and contemplations/ponderings on the lessons and meanings behind what i've learned in the days and weeks following each experience... but that part is only natural, who isn't in awe and reflective after a good trip ;)

:) good topic :)

oh, and another purpose on a more psychological level, is to break down my filters/boundaries (to further, 'see the universe' as others have said, or to attune myself with my fine senses of what is normally subtle perceptual stimulus). Or, to break down my ego itself...my girlfriend says my ego is annoying sometimes, and my wisdoms boil over into pompousness from time to time...a good trip serves to humble that damned ego, and get me back in touch with the true self underneath it's weight.

Often I go into them with an intention, but sometimes I just take a lil dab or lick and whatever's on my mind comes out, or I have a nice happy trip if nothing's really on my mind coz I been dealing with things properly.

Acid - I treat with the utmost respect and apprehension, DMT the same, and the others I use I am more relaxed about.

Tripping to understand myself and my ideas better.
Tripping to see beauty of the world I'm afraid to see when I'm sober.
Tripping to understand people at all, cause I obviously don't understand them.
