anybody ever used the scrap yard to get money when your desperate

since the stock market is down they are paying very shittie prices right now but about 3months ago ,you could get $300 a ton of high quality clean steel at the scrap yard

copper is paying very well ,its at like 2.00 a pound burt(wires etc) ,stripped or shiney pipes get up to 2.50 a pound

this helped me out ALOT when tree work wasnt coming in too well people just didnt have the money to get trees down,starting to pick back up

im just wondering if peopl around DC or baltimore have used it to you advantage,i havent stole things ,well i havent gone to people houses to steel sht ,wich is happening ALOT

i was lucky ,where my grandfather lives they all go by old times ,back 20 years ago the nxt door neibors burried all the crap they had ,to my advantage i got close to 2500$ over a couple months pulling everything from motors ,reaends,lawn mowers ...just everything you can think of....

catalyctic converters have platinum in them and you can get a VERY good price up in mayland and DC ,well you could before the market fell,you could get anywhere from 35-100$

so anybody resorted to this method of getting cash
 
Yo whats up brother, my buddy justin used to do the same thing with some guy up in northern MD. They would haul scrap metal and stuff up to a scrap yard to get cash for dope. They used to make like 100$ a day if they moved enough stuff.

I heard about ppl in baltmore city cutting down the light posts and selling them for scrap metal. Aluminum gets good $ as does copper. The only thing is you need a lot to make decent money. Back when i used to work for a demo company, we would do abatement work in school. We would have to take apart the chalk boards, and those metal rails that frame them and hold the chalk would pile up. We loaded a small box truck full of them and took it to the recycling place and got about 1200$ for all of it. I mean it was probably over a few tonnes of metal and aluminum, but if you have some way to haul the shit, you can make some decent cash.
 
yeai dont know what i woulda done those few months i hauled the stuff i did,i woulda had to be very sick and it woulda been so obvious what was wrong with me

from my experience dc and maryland have the biggest yards and pay the best,whatevr you guys do dont haul anything railroad related,youll have a shit ton of questions to answer and then get the load refused,i was accused of stealling some rail road plates that the track sits on ,i mearly got it off an abandoned track and actually called NORFOLK SOUTHERN and they said we cant tell you you can have it ,and i was like well what can i do with it ,they wanted me to bring the shit to them HAHA

i said come get it if you want it and dumped it at my dads ,well they never came to get it ,like the guy at the scrap yard told me they wouldnt ,basically i had a load of shit nobody wanted yet i couldnt have it...i have been throwing pieces on a load here and there...still got like a few hundred

the best money i made was from telephone wire,they tore he house down around my dads house and they knocked a telelphone poll down ,the stuff sat there for months and i said whats that made of ,it was REALLY FAT ant hard to handle i had like 50 feet ,i got 500 bucks :) for 200 pounds ,scrap metal is down to like 4.50-6.50 a hundred pounds,but it was up to 13-15$ a hundred pounds,so its hard to say what the scrap yard makes from the shit
 
I started my own business doing this...I am making 4-6 thousand a week gross.

But I have one full time employee 12/hr and I buy my metal from people just like you, that are scroughing it up, but dont have a truck to take it out the yards and to the big refineries 100km south of my city.

So I buy it frmo them half price, get my employee to sort, grade, and improve grades (i.e. cut brass fittings from copper pipe...now rendering copper #1 and brass yellow solids, instead of copper/brass mix...more $$)

its fucking great.
 
wow i take it you have alot of cash then huh :)

you can see more fucking money spent in 10 min at a scrap yard than any fucking where ,and the best thing is ,its cash

just curious how did you start? ,where do you live? i used to wish i could do it when i was hauling it ,i had a truck and all that ,not a pick up it has a 15ft bed ,dump but it eats gas like a bitch so i cant really haul anything to the cities i want,so i just take it to my town scrap yard who is raking in fucking money

what do you pay your worker?,do you have a place the people brig the junk to ? sorry for the questions im very interested in this
 
the scrap yard in my town is IN with Mscrap (maryland scrap) so i hear ,they always come there to pick up a huge ass load
 
Ya ive done this a few times lol.Its quick money and the rate is fixed which is good.
 
Whats the deal with copper wire/cable? Do you need to strip the insulation off when bringing it back? I got 45 pounds worth of copper wire/cable but it has that black insulation rubber on it...

itsd worth more if you strip it.

HOWEVER

get the price for bare copper and the price for insulated, cut one foot of insulated off, weight it, then strip it and weight it again.

see if stripping makes you loose money or not, on some cables, the rubber is so heavy, the extra $$/lb is lost in the loss of LB's

How do you afford your fix?

I had this question with heavy opiate users in mind but it can apply to other drugs. I love opiates but I will never have the money to become addicted. The hardest opiate I can get my hands on is oxycontin and it's damn expensive. I haven't touched any opiates besides opium 1 night in a couple months so I have no tolerance and I've already done 40mg today.

So my question to heavy users... how do you afford your shit? Do you steal/do shady shit to get your fix, do you just have awesome hookups so you get your shit cheap as hell, or what? I've never tried heroin but I've heard it's a little cheaper than oxycontin but not by much. Not that it really matters though once your tollerance gets up high enough you're looking at a lot of money anyway.

yeah, i would not want that job. Fuck that. Wayyy too much work. Thats why theres not alot of activity from them lately.
