i find myself getting peeved at times when i'm at peoples' houses and they're channel surfing. not that there's anything wrong with channel surfing as a whole, but their style of it... sometimes it just gets to me.

i have many different way's i'll go through the process.

if i have no clue what might be on and i just turned the tv on... sometimes i'll just hit the channel up (or down for that matter) button repeatedly, only long enough to focus the general mood that's on the channel and maybe glance at a familiar face or two.

sometimes, i'll give each interesting channel a chance, watch until the next commercial break, then i'll change it again to find something new to watch, hence watching an hour of maybe 5 or six different shows, but feeling that i've truly gotten to know what they were trying to accomplish.

sometimes, i'll just skim my favorite channels first... then if there's nothing good on those, i'll do the first method of aimlessly flipping through stopping randomly then making a decision after the fact.

there's many more ways that i can't remember at the moment, but i find every style of channel surfing to be unique in it's own way. it shows patience, memory recall, etc. it's weird.

my friend will scroll through the 93940+ channels he's got and read almost everything guide thing... that is way too slow. i'll occasionally mention a show that passes and they won't stop, they'll keep on scrolling then reading another terrible show... then stopping on it... no rhythm, nothing that lead's me to believe they're truly being open to suggestions. they're channel surfing to find something specific where as i like to channel surf to fall upon something unusual that will catch me at that moment in time. keep me interested.

what's your style? or what peeves you about other people channel surfing?

Mercilessly unless a movie or show catches my full, undivided attention (rarely).
This is why I love watching TV alone. When I'm with others, I usually leave the remote with them.

reckless channel surfing really grinds my gears.

i stick to just using the guide to browse my fav channels until i find something interesting.

but ill tell u what pisses me off when im at my homies and watchin nba league pass basketball (get every game so some days theres like 5+ games on at the same time) i swear every fucking dead ball/time-out that fucker has to switch the channel to another game. i rather just pick one game and stick with it. makes no damn sense and usually run into a shit-ton of commercials anyways or by the time find another game in action the game we just left is back in play argh!#%@#

I hate channel surfing where you start at channel 2 and go all the way up to 900.. it is absolutly ridiculous

I have my own stupid little way...

I always turn the TV on and start at Spike (channel 41 for me)
Now I have iO Digital Cable... and you don't actually have to change the channel.. you can just hit the arrow keys and it stays on the channel.. and you can just see whats on the other channels..

I start at 41.. Spike..
Then scroll to 40 (FX)
39 (TBS)
38 (USA)
37 (TNT)

Then back to 41 (Spike)
42 (WE)
43 (I don't know)
44 (Bravo)
45 (Lifetime)
46 (A&E)

Then I go to 26 (Food Network)
and 81 (Oxygen)

Then I go to 301 and channel surf there.. all the HBO's and Encores and Starz...

And no other channels.. lol =D

And those are the only channels I watch.. =D

i have 5 channels. ;)

i switch on channel 4, where i am most likely to find something worth watching. if not, i switch on teletext to see what's on 'now and next', find something, and switch to it.

OLD SKOOL ftw!

(i am in the UK)

1. Wait for seasons of shows I would like to watch to come to DVD.
2. Buy DVD season.
3. Watch commercial-free and at my own pace.

It's the only way to watch tv.

There are a few channels that I automatically check out as soon as I turn the TV on; after I glimpse those I slowly flip through, maybe lingering a minute or two on those that briefly catch my interest. If I don't find anything within five or ten minutes, I just turn it off.

i'm glad i don't have cable anymore. aside some specific programming, the beast is off. i use it far more for dvds, blu-ray and video games.

teh wife sometimes still likes to surf the clicker. annoying.

I like how you start with Spike (the channel designed specifically for dudes) and end with Oxygen (a network geared toward women). You need to find a way to fit Logo (the gay network) somewhere in the middle of you surfing.

Thats what I do. I dont have cable so its movies and what not and the internet, witch you can get alot of shows on for free anyways if you no whare to look ;) . Oh, and I also do netflix a ton. You can watch lots of movies instantley if you are sighned up.

I don't. I read the TV Guide from the Sunday Paper, and take it from there. I use the Channel Guide, and generally know which stations I prefer, and when my 'regular/usual' shows are on. Like a few others, i watch alot of DVD's, at least two a week from Netflix. i'll do Season's of shows that way. Finishing up Season I of Madmen tomorrow, and we have Ghandi (like my 5th time) for Sunday,,,awesome Movie. I could easily become a vidiot, if I didn't conciously limit my viewing. Theres so much on, it's hard to be discerning.

Haven't had a television plugged in for at least three years. Probably more along the lines of five years... If I want to watch a show I'll download it.
