Misc How do i sterilize ear drops container? (For Ritalin) Hot water? (says Sterile on it)

so yeah have this lil ear drop container.. says sterile on it. Rinsed in hot water... soaked in hot water... how do i know if its sterile?

What kind of top/lid does it have? Is it something that can be rinsed out completely?

The best way to insure an as-sterile-as-possible container would be to rinse it with alcohol. Preferably not isopropyl alcohol (because it's toxic when in injected) although any type will do...you just need to make sure if it's rubbing alcohol that you have poured out the alcohol and let the bottle dry.

Sterility is not something that will last - as soon as you open the bottle and let air in, you let in the possibility of contamination. Make sure that once you sterilize your equipment to the best of your ability, you use bacteriostatic water for your solution to prevent bacteria growth. And I always keep pre-made solution in the fridge henever possible.
 
thanks. well since pressure cook/Autoclave are way out of my reach, i guess im going to have to result to alcohol bath, i just wanted to thank you for the information, im going to start searching for the simplest way to Do that, with house hold items/Without going to the store. In the mean time, if you get back to this thread before me & dont have to go out of your way.. the simplest way to do it would be great knowledge for me atm. Thanks guys.

If you don't already have it yet, go to the store/pharmacy and buy some isopropanol (isopropyl alcohol), let it sit in it for a given length of time (ideally at least an hour - other members can clue you into times which are ideal).

Yeah, at least an hour. Even better is to use Everclear or ethyl alcohol - it's non-toxic so you don't have to worry about rinsing or drying out your container. Anyway, make sure that every part of your container comes in contact with the alcohol. The reason I asked about the lid/closure of the container is that you will want to make sure that everything gets sterilized. If there's a dropper, run alcohol through that. If you're not going to use the container immediately, just store it full of alcohol and it will remain clean.
 
yeah, honestly i dont have any way to gain any of that stuff. For various reasons, =[ Rubbing alcohol is about all i got, notsure what that qualifies under.
