I wanted to post a question with a picture attached but it is not from a URL, it is from my hard drive. Is this possible?

Note: I looked into the bluelight guide and it says to post image
I am pretty new with forums and don't get what this means.

You'll need to upload your picture to an image hosting site first. Some good ones are tinypic.com, imageshack.us, photobucket.com or imgur.com. If you start an account on one of those sites you can have all your pictures in one place and have the ability to delete them later on if you so choose. That is my advice, but you don't need to have an account to upload something.

Once you upload your picture the site will give you a list of different links. You could head over to our testing grounds sub forum and explore for yourself the best one to use. But if you use the direct link (it will probably end in .jpg) just paste it between image tags,
or click on the image icon in the reply box when you make the post (it's to the right and looks like a picture frame), and paste it in there.

I'll give you a quick example using the site logo.

You just want to change the URL between the open and close IMG tags out for the locale you've hosted your image at as Klue said.

I suppose I am nervous that the pictures I post there will somehow come back to me. Oh well, here goes nothing.

That sucks you can't just direftly upload from your computer rather than go through all that.

Yea but using an image hosting site can allow you to remove 'exif data' from the images which makes it harder to be traced back to you. If you were to be able to just directly upload it here then it could possibly be used to help identify you.

Mods/Admin - Am I allowed to mention a photo carrier? I don't want to break any rules here but would prefer to ask.

You sign up to a photo carrier, upload the photo there then will then give you a link for you to copy such as [img="image address "] that you simply copy and past into the post edit box. Hope that helps?

this is an excellent point, a lot of people don't realize how much potentially incriminating metadata can be stored in some photos (sometimes as much as exact geolocation coordinates).

i recommend using a service like http://www.verexif.com/en/ to strip EXIF even before uploading to image hosting sites, as some image hosting services strip EXIF data incompletely. there are several services like verexif, that's just the first one that came to mind. there are also several methods for stripping EXIF on your own computer if you want to avoid relying on a third party.
