How did you get into Electronic music?

My friends took me to a bassnectar show in Detroit a few years ago and I've been hooked ever since. I used to listen to electronic music in high school strictly for lightshows and MDMA use, although I preferred listening to hip hop while rolling.

I was 10 had just moved to France and always heard techno and house songs.
Ever since I'm always into EDM.

i got into electronic when i was like 10 or so. it was always on in the house because my mother played it all the time techno, minimal ,trance , enya! really sounded good to me hehehe when she made us clean the house got the mood going ... weird how i never told my friends that i liked that kind of music a lot more than what my peers liked which mostly was going off what was on mtv and the radio which i liked aswell but trance!!!!!!!!!!!!!! can explain it . i guess i put my own thoughts and words to it. and in my head where all that thinking with the sounds and flow is what i really loved about it. Now that i think about it and read what i just typed I know why it came to be my genre and i wanna say drug hehehehe maybe water is a better word because i need it! and want it! and yearn for it! . i really like how everyone has their own way the fell into electronic music. just happend till i really tried to type this out and think about how i got into. love you mom

For me it was hearing the little bit of "rave music" that my sister listened to on the radio during the 90's at times. I didn't of course become in love with it then, but that's what sparked my interest in it at first. What ignited my love for EDM was playing video games like Midnight Club 1 & 2 in 5th grade, watching Blade Runner, and also Blade. I hold Midnight Club 2 solely responsible for my addiction to EDM now though. The intro with Roccoco - Kansai playing and all the cars driving insanely got me so intrigued and in love. Then once I finally made it to Tokyo in MC2 my mind was fully blown by the Acid and Psy Trance that Michael Da Brain and all his aliases provided in game. From there I began listening to the internet radio stations on iTunes and just listening to every single possible sub-genre of EDM to find which sub-genre I liked the most. Eventually I found my calling for a bit with drum and bass. I was listening to a live radio show and chatting with the DJs on AIM whilst they were mixing, I was in 6th grade at the time so I thought this was like the coolest thing on the planet. Next thing I know while still chatting and listening I get a live shout out from DJ BTK & Spleen on the radio. I.FREAKED.THE.FUCK.OUT. I was just absolutely mind-blown that they would even have payed that close of attention to a conversation with a 6th grader and recognized my love for EDM and announced it to everyone listening. I may have been the only one cheering and no one else would understand, but that was literally one of the biggest turning points in my life. Those two DJs with that shout out made me decide from that instant that I wanted EDM to be my life and love, and now it is. I DJ and produce music and will be going to school for Audio Production next Fall semester....but yeah, that's my glorious story of how I fell in love with EDM.

I'm happy to be able to share this love with other people as well (you guys), because some times I feel like people don't understand how EDM isn't just a music you listen to because famous people make it and everyone listens to it, you listen to EDM constantly cause you love it. And I love all of those who share the love with me, I'm a hippie of sorts when it comes to that :) Anyways...love, peace, and beats everybody

back in the 90s, I realized how I lost touch with rock music. As a kid I was listening to Faith no More and Nirvana all the time, and then it was as if they disappeared and I had industrial. A lot of the industrial acts, like Trent Reznor, Skinny Puppy, Chemlab, etc were pretty much electronic. This eventually brought me to drum n bass and techno.

drum & bass arena by dj hype and andy c nightlife 4 were the first albums i had when i was about 16. before that i listened to a few typical trance tunes.. sandstorm, clubbed to death, adagio for strings and various styles and breeze tunes.

shit, listening to some now.. nostalgic :')

ahh my first ever nights on mdma. magical.

It was a rough time in my life. I was like 17 years old. And then I heard "One More Time" by Daft Punk on the radio one day. It brought back a lot of good childhood memories. From there on I was reminded of a couple songs like Better Off Alone and Call On Me. Sure they're cheesy songs lol but I love them. So that's where it started...ever since then I've browsed through many sub-forums across the internet that pertain to electronic music...listening to every song that gets posted...

Now that's what I'm talking about man! I love hearing about how EDM has changed someones life by just making them feel good and want to dance! I know exactly what you mean though, about it changing your mood and bringing back good memories. EDM is all aroung feel good, and you sir are just a small amount of the people that are living proof :)

When I was 15... so some 12 years ago now... damn I'm getting old. But got into it by attending a new years eve event that was playing hardcore. Mannnnnn, I miss that soooo much. Although a lot of the new stuff is pretty awesome don't get me wrong, but pure insanely loud cheese is where it's at. Than I've always listened to EDM (House, Progressive, Trance, Hardcore/Happy Hardcore) and Heavy Metal ever since...

when i was 10 i started listening to the talking heads, soft cell, pet shop boys, kraftwerk ect lol....then one year i bought this compilation CD that MTV came out with called AMp and it had like the chemical brothers, fluke, FSOL and a bunch of aother artists on it and i was hooked. the moog synth sound was the first thing that got me into electronic music haha, that fat wawawawa sounds was so cool i wanted to hear more sounds and sonic texture like that, and it led me all over the spectrum of electronic music. my real wow moment was the first time i heard brown paper bag by roni size, i was like daaaaaayum, this shit is tight. i was hooked on dnb

rolling for the 1st time + house party

fell in absolute <3

dj's were shit but i had never really been into the music beforehand so it definitely opened my eyes to some degree, i listen to rock (dont want to get in depth) and electronic music for the most part now

p.s. i used to be one of those people who say electronic music takes no talent, that anybody can do it, boy was i wrong lol

Always listened to some techno music here and there, never knew any names or song titles though. Eventually I got into listening to Trance music late at night playing Call Of Duty 2. For awhile all I really listened to was Metal and Progressive Rock, then I went to my first rave over a year ago and was instantly hooked to Hardstyle.
