How did you get into Electronic music?

I'm thinking of a spot in Philly.

Hmmmm.... I think it was called Shampoo.

I did do some random caps and stems there once though.
 
^^^^Maaaan I did it all at Shampoo!! In fact I was shrooming at a rave there the first time I heard "Hey Ya" by Outkast. I wrote a reply post about Shampoo before this but I tried to edit it and it was deleted. But yeah, that was one of the main clubs in Philly where you could see proper house megastars back around 2000-2005ish.
 
I always liked "electronic music" sound as a kid, but never went really into it, until I moved to Buenos Aires in 2003, I had 18, and some older cousins took me to a festival where Hernan Cattaneo, Sasha and Danny Howells were playing, and gave me an ecstasy pill..... <3

Since then is the only music I hear =D (trance in the beginning, progressive for the last 9 years aprox.) I mean I like every kind of music, really, but if the choice is on me, I'll always choose progressive-house
 
^^^^ Awesome! I love everything from tech house, techno, breakbeat, drum and bass, minimal etc. but I am always more attracted to the deeper sounds. I need that bottom heavy, deep bass sound and progressive has always hit the spot in that regard. I've never seen Hernan though I would love to. ?
 
I got into The Prodigy when I was 10. By 12 I was into tape packs of the raves of the day (Dreamscape, Fantazia, Helter-skelter to name a few for the old skool UK ravers). By 15 we were throwing mad gabba techno potatoes, by 17 attending the raves mentioned above. At 18 started playing out dark techy from and bass (late nineties, this was). And from there skyrocketed up and played everywhere from central London clubs to illegal Welsh raves. Now I'm in my late thirties and am very much pipe and slippers, but I still put on the banging tunes from the old days on a daily basis. My neighbours listen to awesome music, whether they like it or not. :D
 
Boards of Canada kicked it off really, when I first got into them I was amazed at how they created such an organic atmosphere with electronic production, as well they're simply some of the most psychedelic sounding music I've ever heard...

Flying Lotus was quite important as well, huge inspiration on my own production style i'm (slowly) working on (him & Gaslamp Killer), his Brainfeeder label is among my biggest long term musica obsessions as well...

Thanks to my father I've been a huge Bowie fan for my whole life, so I'd also say that hearing his 90s albums "Earthling" & "Outside" at a young age basically predicted or kick started my love of electronic production.
