Opioids How dangerous is Poppy Tea really?

wow, people are still doing that? i thought everyone moved on since it became illegal, and i haven't seen it being sold in the dark corners of the internet.

Where are the pods illegal? In the US?

they're a gray area; in canada they bust people all the time for them. In Arizona they are sold openly. It's a take your chances sort of thing but not a big risk - they are used for ornamental purposes thus not illegal until prepared.

Sure for ornamental purposes only, I thought they were truly illegal in any form somewhere. Of course we all poppy lovers just love the look of the pods, soon it's christmas and so on.

i would just like to add, ive been a weekend warrior on pods for the past 2 years with no issues, other than wishing i was "high" on the other 6 days of the week, which cannabis can easily cure, maybe even a beer or two if its been a rough day. i make sure every few months to take a few, meaning 2 or 3 solid weeks off to make sure im not gaining a very slight, background dependance. ive been great. they help alot, when i dont over do it and end up sick for a long time, Lol. for me....i have a LOW opiate tolerance. with your standard pods you order in the US, it takes me about 2-3 grams to get pinpointed pupils, itchy eyebrows and mustache, the whole 9 yards. and EVERY time ive ever redosed, ive gotten sick. they build slow and even the times i havent redosed, and just figured i ate the right amount, sure enough around the 4 or 5 hour mark, i find myself sweating bullets, and nausea on the rise. ive gotten away without puking several times, but when i get to this point, i usually try to make myself, to feel better.

i would also like to add, dosing pods accurately is VERY HARD if not impossible. they vary so much from pod to pod in potency, its really a crapshoot. i found an average amount of powder that usually doesnt get me sick, and at the very least, i just am in a great mood, with a nice body buzz. when i get greedy, and take a "lil more" i almost always get fucked, haha.

and also, i dont drink it as a tea. i grind the pods up into a powder and just dump em in my mouth with my head cocked back and a glass of water ready to go. wash that shot down quick, and do your best not to gag. Lol... i like this method (well not really like but prefer) over making a tea you have to drink, and drink, and drink on. i would just capsule the powder but that would be way too time consuming and cost more in capsules than i pay for my pods. eh, hope this helps. -aphex

^and yes, there have been a few times ive gona astray and taken pods 2 or 3 times in a week, but i catch myself, stop myself, and start a new week from there. thats also why its good to take a few weeks off every 3 months or so. in case you do slip from your one day a week and making sure your getting back to zero. -aphex

It's a lot easier to control the use with regular pods, but once in a while I decide to pay little bit more for super-potency pods and with them it seems just pretty much impossible to have any self-control. They are just too damn good to be true.

dangerous? I can barely get it to work!

Having said that, if you do manage to get high enough, it has the same dangers as morphine, codeine, and thebaine. I'm pretty sure it also has a very slight (yet real) seizure danger, from the thebaine, although by the time you get to a high enough dose where you seize, you probably already overdosed from respiratory depression.

Harm reduction:

1. Grind all pods together to get a poppy straw of consistant strength.
2. Start low and go slow. Try to add enough water to your tea to make about 2 pints of liquid. Such a large amount makes it harder to drink the tea too fast. Sip the tea over 2-4 hours. Provided your dose wasn't too low, you should feel effects within 30 mins-2 hours depending on when you last ate.
3. Poppy tea's effects can be quite subtle and might take a few attempts before you learn to recognise them. If you're opiate naive, don't dismiss any initial sensations as too weak and be tempted to re-dose until you are more familiar with the drug. The initial warmth and contentment takes time to appreciate. The nod follows after, and may surprise you with its intensity.

Other posters have commented on OD experiences. From my own experience these come in 2 forms, the first being nausea and vomiting shortly after drinking the tea. This isn't particularly unpleasant and is probably nothing to be too worried about. The second is fucking horrible, and is more likely an opiate hangover than an OD.* You wake up the following day with a mind-bogglingly painful headache; every movement causes a surge of nausea. You'll probably be sick a few times. Probably most comparable to a bad migraine.

*There are plenty of anecdotal reports online of 'opiate hangover'. The shitty thing is that you don't have to take a dose within the OD range to experience this, making PT a bit of a Russian roulette. It does however seem to be more likely if opiates are used after a period of abstainance, and is more common with larger doses, though as I mentioned, can occur with moderate doses also.

If you can identify the subspecies of pods(Papaver somniferum ssp.), average potencies have been analyzed and reported. An article database search would yield results. Picture identification of pods is also quite advanced within the plant community, at least the one that likes pods.
