how could DMT kill someone?

i'm not really sure why they let her wander off. someone said they thought she went outside to throw up, but never came back.

and she had just met the guy that gave it to her that night, he also made it himself apparently. i don't know if that makes a difference

is there a link to a news article about this?

he didn't 'make' it - he extracted it i'm sure - which means he removed the DMT from a plant that contains it. it is a very simple organic chemistry procedure and many different 'teks' (instruction sets) exist to help accomplish. really, its on par with making cookies from scratch.

things like bluelight and MAPS exist to help prevent this kind of tragedy from occurring. The education that our children receive about drugs is horribly misleading. Kids should be told the truth and not BS propaganda. The desire to alter consciousness is right up there with the desire to have sex - so no matter what prohibition is in place people will seek it and accomplish it. DMT itself as a chemical is much less harmful than other substances that are abused by children (alcohol, paint, glue, weed, high dose OTC drugs - etc)

i don't like to diss people but seriously, you don't take dmt and expect to go for a walk

no more than you go bungie jumping while deciding that instead of harnessing yourslef you're going to hold the rope with one hand

i'm sorry that this happened but i can only think of bill hicks' quote about someone jumping from a window on lsd

irresponsible people are giving drugs a bad name

Sounds most likely to me that its not a DMT-related suicide, or due to any kind of effect or disorientation caused by the DMT, but just that she had her 5 minute trip, then finding the party scene unpleasantly chaotic, wanting some headspace to reflect, went outside in the dark, possibly not even realizing the pond was there, had an ACCIDENT and slipped and fell into the pond. Why is it always assumed drugs are to "blame"? The news story did not even research or ask her family if she could swim. The reporter should be fired for doing such a poor job.

Instead the reported was probably paid highly because he or she created a buzz and an emotional response, which is good for sales. :\

I really can't understand why so much blame can be placed on something which is in our brain anyway. Ok so it's a miniscule amount that doesn't do anything (that we know), but still, the principal of it...

I'm just gonna throw another log on the speculation bon-fire here-
How do we know she was UNDER THE INFLUENCE of (exogeous) DMT at the time she died? Is there any evidence, or do the witness testimonies give a time table that would suggest so? Just sayin'.

Yeah I have a hard time believing they knew she was on DMT, it doesn't last long so it seems like she wouldn't still be on it. Wth was she doing at a pond and are they even sure she wasn't murdered? I could imagine someone on DMT drowning, idk if it was suicide, but DMT takes you out of this world, it is even recommended to have someone there to grab the pipe from you so you don't drop it and to make sure you're not standing. If she took a hit near the pond she could have easily fell in and died, it just isn't bright.

Well people put blame on mental disorders all the time...

if she had smoked dmt, then left the party, its seems to me that she wouldn't have been all that "on" if she had been able to walk to the pond, and certainly not by the time she got there. Now if she wandered off from the party to smoke some dmt, then i could see how she could fall in. I hope the local police department actually looks at this as opposed to saying "Well, obviously it can all be blamed on the drug, no reason to question anything further"

Gotta say, DMT can give an instant rise in bloodpressure and heartrate but I don't think it could be harmful unless you have a cardiovascular condition or are on a lot of amphetamines or other stimulants.
DMT is supposed to be quite benign, one think I always found freaky about N,N-DMT and 5-MeO-DMT is that sometimes you can forget to breathe, when its so intense and you are into it sometimes it can feel so stunning I have had multiple instances where it was hard to remember to breathe. I remember reading about other people on high doses that they had a super intense trip and had trouble keeping a normal breath.
Combine that with wandering into a pond and I can see how it can be that you are so far away that you don't even notice you are pretty much drowning. Especially if you are having a near-death experience like breakthrough trip.

It reminds me of those crazy stories where people are tripping so hard on ridiculously high doses and they find a door of light that beckons. Sometimes those people say they felt it would be like leaving this life and going somewhere else. I don't really know what's true about those experiences but perhaps your mind is able to have such a heavy experience dying that you actually die.
A bit like dying of fear, surrendering your lifeforce and just stopping.

Those portal stories make me really uncomfortable in a way... especially the reports where people stop breathing and have no pulse for a short period. Anyway I don't actually know if any about this is possible - perhaps its just ghost stories, fuck if I know. Would be damn hard to find those reports anyway, should be a couple somewhere on Erowid.

Stoned kid kills himself'
more than likely they were using to try to stop the shit in there head.
I never tride it but , I felt the pain nothing like it, worse than my heroin DTs,
So of course I turned to drugs to stop the madness, or at least make its different,
so I now take my Rx pills=seratonin,Gaba'penton, dopeamean, and adrenalin, of course I cant get the fun ones, only all these reuptake blockers, so alota desiner drugs have no effect, or only works once than never again? I will pray for familey and her soul, but I kinda see it as going home. since my volt. @ a hospice.

what if it was oral dmt and she just walked into the water or some shit, i dont see how smoked dmt could do this unless like someone else said she was like at the lake and smoked some and fell in

If she took DMT at a party it would have worn off by the time she managed to walk to a lake. She would have had to smoke it while already by the lake in order to fall in and drown whilst high.

As to why DMT would make someone suicidal enough to drown themself, no idea. It could well have been a sober accident that was simply blamed on DMT due to the presence of metabolites in her system.

This is a repost.

The girl according to the info I read previously, SNORTED a "a lot for a first timer"

I have taken DMT both via smoking and insuflation.

Via smoked, I dont see this being possible. You go from way too out of it to be ble to move, to totally coherent in too short a time in my opinion...

But with insuflation it takes a good 15 to 20 minutes before you are fully gone.

I could see a first timer snorting it, freaking out due to the nose burn, running over to a pond to try to extinguish the nose fire with some water, and as you bend over to take a handful of water out of the pond the trip begins to hit you and you lose ballance and fall in, and hit your head on a rock or something....

I could totally see this hapenning with irresponsible people. Sadly.
