Recently theirs been A LOT of attention in the media on legalizing marijuana. How close do you think USA is to legalization?

CNN, time mag, new york times to name a few sources of articles that have come out pro legalization as of late. Obama laughed at us but he is catching a lot of heat for it. I feel that marijuana maybe subject to rescheduling sooner then later. I met a cool figure from the cannabis community who explained to me he'd been expecting legalization for the last 30years!

Hopefully now's the time if its not the people need to make it the time.

Ya i mean although the media attention seems to have increased ten fold, it is still as unpopular politically, as ever. Not many politicians even dare to talk about marijuana, even our president Barack Obama considers it a laughing matter.

Dont get me wrong im all for legalization, but it just doesnt seem to have that political momentum it needs to get passed

I would say we are about 2-5 years away, but that legalization is something we will all see in our lifetimes

i like the 2-5 year prediction too.

my guess is that the change is going to occur largely on a state-by-state basis. while Obama was a bit rude to laugh off the question, i don't think he's going to let the federal government stand in the way of state medical/decrim initiatives the same way that the Bush admin did. And, while I don't think the federal government wants to lead the way in terms of establishing the infrastructure for legalization, they might be more willing if the states are able to manage the process successfully(and, more important, profitably).

I agree. California and Massachusetts have recently introduced legalization bills. This is, and has been becoming, a bottom up movement. After enough states have passed MMJ, decriminalization, and especially once a legalization bill or two gets enacted, the federal government will have little choice. I give it maybe 3-7 years, though, this could still take some time.

nah, i give it 2 - 5 years as well. i never understood why so many people thought it would take a decade or more.

more people know the truth about marijuana, not like in the 70's when lies and myths were abundant.

we're living in a marijuana revolution imo

idk.. cant really say. i just wait every day in anticipation (not really)

wont there have to be a lot of shit changed to make it fully legal. like the gun control thing (making them illegal to own) would take a lot, wouldnt it be the same for mary j?

People who say 2-5 years are delusional. I HOPE I'm wrong, but just because there is media coverage doesn't mean the government and politicians don't hold the same blind stereotypes towards DRUGS.

There is such a negative connotation with the term, "drug." The government has done a brilliant job of smashing that term into our head. Anything can be a "drug", but if it's illegal, uh-oh, watch out.....

This will take at least 10 years and that's being kind. I'm almost inclined to say it will never happen because I'm so skeptical of the government admitting they're wrong about something. Hopefully, they will swallow their pride, and reap the benefits of taxing the drug, as well as, ignoring the Christian mass who are obsessed with destroying anything associated with drugs.

I'm a positive person; I'll go with 20 years, two decades.

I think that obama would only let it fly during his second term, when he's got nothing to lose. So my guess is sometime between 2012-2016.
