How chill is your college/university

As an incoming college freshman, I have wondered what the scene is like at the university I will be attending. I also can imagine that I am not the only one with questions about this topic, so I started a new thread!

To all current college kids, tell us how lax or strict your place of education is in terms of Marijane or any other drug you feel like mentioning, and also throw some advice and stories out there!
 
My campus just e-mailed everyone a copy of the drug policy, here is an excerpt, read and laugh:

Illicit drugs include narcotics, such as heroin or morphine;
depressants, such as barbiturates, Quaaludes, or valium; stimulants,
such as cocaine or "crack"; hallucinogens, such as PCP, LSD or
mescaline; cannabis, such as marijuana or hashish; inhalants, such as
nitrous oxide, amyl nitrite (poppers) or various hydrocarbon
solvents; and designer drugs, such as China White, methamphetamine
(Ecstacy) or meperidine (Demerol).


"methamphetamine (Ecstacy) " is my favorite part.

Generally Northern and larger schools are more lax than southern and smaller schools in regards to marijuana. But most schools will toss you on your ass without a question if they so much as find paraphanelia or the smallest piece of bud. Zero tolerance policy.

Just don't get busted, plain and simple.

God damn. I mean, it's a college / university... you'd think they of all people who get it right. Even for the sake of relating to the students. We all know how important it is to get your slang right in front of the kids ;)
 
That's a little intense... usually any policy is strict, it's whether they enforce it or not

I got to Upitt.. its pretty alcohol driven, but if you look in the right places, its all around
 
I go to a community college, I smoke blunts on a regular basis in front of the main instructional center. There are usually hoardes of people smoking cigarettes, so I usually just keep it discrete and get ready to throw it over the railing if there is to be any trouble.

It is pretty chill.
 
Here's a few words from a letter my university sent me a little less than a week ago.

"2007-2008 Annual Notification of UCXX Substance Abuse Policy"

(It says some shit about how possession, sale, manufacturing drugs on University is prohibited, the usual rules, then goes on to say)

"In addition, students and academic and staff employees are prohibited from using illegal substances or abusing legal substances in a manner that impairs job performance, scholarly activities, or student life."

I don't know if thats out of the ordinary, but I thought that sentence was really chill and quite humorous. They're saying "getting fucked up is fine as long as you can still get good grades"..... as it should be. My school was ranked #2 party school by playboy last year, so I guess the letter shouldn't have been too much of a shock.
 
I go to a small, really liberal college where no one cares that much. I wouldn't want to get caught per se, but I've never heard of anyone getting into serious trouble for minor possession. It's pretty much a slap on the wrist all the way, as its treated as a health issue.

The school may be lax, but unfortunately, it's in the middle of Red State America, and the local cops hate us for being so liberal. Therefore, it's only wise to keep all things illicit on campus.
 
if your living in a dorm, just smoke little bowls and blow it out a window. they will never kno.
 
My campus is so chill. We smoke weed out on the bench in front of my dorm and multiple people deal large amounts of weed out of their dorm rooms.

Yeah man, mine too. Where ya going? I'm guessing its some small private badass liberal arts school in a chill town like mine, no?
 
UMASS Amherst, dudes. Of course you can get slayed for drugs but........ THERE'S 30,000 PEOPLE TO BLEND IN WITH!!! Just the other day I was walking with a beer and a joint, and the cops were patrolling... they stopped, asked to see my ID and told me to keep walking!
 
We're not even "allowed" to smoke cigarettes on our campus. It's not really enforced, but some students feel it necessary to become vocal to those of us who are away from people smoking.

So, not very lax.
 
I know that a number of the humanities and language members of staff are quite happy to smoke cannabis with students when they (the staff) have a tutor group party, but that's because it's a private thing and even then only a few of the staff do it.

Illegal drugs will get you into a heap of trouble if you're caught, though it depends on how stupid you are to be caught. Leaving a crack pipe or syringe around, obviously. Stuff like "your room smells like cannabis" never happens. The two guys who lived below me in my 3rd year smoked 24/7 and our staircase stank of it. Yet despite a cleaner going into their room 3 times a week (where the mess was awful and the smell 10 times worse), they never got into trouble (well, aside from the fact they never used their bin and just dropped rubbish on the floor and left it there!).

Grey areas like "It's legal but you can get high off it" such as peyote 'pot pouri' or GBL you can get away with because it isn't illegal, though I don't know anyone personally whose put that to the test (the grape vine has various stories though).

Though for huge infractions (ie class A stuff) you'd probably be expelled, the general attitude does seem to have a lot more 'give' than you'd expect.

that sounds rather harsh. i am a junior at my college and my freshman year in the dorms we smoked not a lot , but we did. i knew a couple kids who got caught, one of them on my floor. The one on my floor got a 250$ ticket for all of his pipes ( had like 6 or 7 ) and then like 90$ i think for the pot he had ( just under an eith).

just dont be dumb and get caught and you will be strait. but ... in the long run i would rather get caught by campus police than the real police any day of the week, atelast for my school.
 
My first school was so fucking chill. we could seriously just sit out on the soccer field...or our dorms, walkways, the woods, the beach or any other spot on campus and smoke bowls. my freshman year, we were in my ex-girlfriend's room smoking and the RA (resident assistant, for non-students) comes in and a plume of smoke billows out into the hall. A bit of background, I was a HEAVY smoker of cigarettes at the time and almost always had a cigarette in hand. She comes into the room and just tells my ex-girlfriend to open a window then looks at me and says " and you might want to have a cigarette to cover up the smoke." yeah, the girl in charge of turning kids in told me to smoke a cigarette in the dorm so we didn't get caught for smoking weed.
Not only that but this place was so chill that i threw roll parties monthly with some of my friends and I spinning records and we brought in somewhere between 100 to 250 pills. This was on campus! RAs and RDs (the people the RAs work for) and sometime even campus security came by just to make sure everyone was safe! It was fucking awesome! as long as they never saw any of the pills, nothing happened. that place was bad ass!
 
For my school it all depends on where you live. Last year I lived in a smaller quiet dorm, but since my friends and I were friends with the RA she just let everything slide. This year I live in the "party" dorm on campus and our hallway smells like weed 24/7 as everyone is smoking. One of my friends moved into a dorm of singles and supposedly it's virtually impossible to smoke there without getting caught or written up, as in people who are outside and aren't even RAs will call the campus police if they see smoke coming out of a window.
 
I go to a science and engineering school in the Midwest region of the country, and we live in one of the most liberal cities in the area. While they'll be real dicks about it if you get caught, they put literally no effort into looking for it and thus it isn't a problem. We keep our activities off-campus and it's all gravy.
