Opioids How can you tell if poppy seeds still contain opium?

Is there any way to tell, when buying poppy seeds to make poppy tea, whether thye have been interfered with beforehand?
I know that some places/brands/sellers remove the part that allows you to make proper opiate tea with them.
 
I haven't heard of one. (aside from checking lot/batch numbers... all the seeds from one lot will be very similar)

Poppy seeds for culinary use are not standardised for alkaloid content. Technically you shouldn't even be able to make seed tea; it's only possible because some poppy seed suppliers don't wash the seeds after threshing them from the poppy pods.

Oh, right. Is it legal (UK) to buy poppy pods? I'm guessing not?
 
i think it's a grey area, there are plenty of vendors in the UK anyway, consider yourself lucky, there isn't shit over here.

in general bulk poppy seeds have a better probability of being less washed than store brand ones. I think all the seeds are washed in the first place but to what degree is the issue, and how much of what alkaloids were on them in the first place is another issue.
 
smell them.

if it smells...pungent? then you're in business.

if it smells like a spice rack, avoid the seed at all costs.

the potency can vary wildly from batch to batch, so even if you find good seed, chances are it will be swapped out for shitty seed eventually.

yes its legal to buy sell and grow poppy pods in the uk. If it can be proven that you are making a preparation for consumption, then it could be a class A offence (as the magic mushroom law USED to be in uk). But it would have to be a very clued up police officer who could spot it and more importantly prove it, as poppys dont carry the same stigma in the uk as they do in the us.
Infact, a friend of mine developed a lovely, nicely active strain of his own.
Probably not as good as imported pods but since they were free, very satisfying.
