How Can we Improve Ecstasy Discussion?

I think the "trusted poster" label would bring about an unnecessary elitist sentiment on the boards. Information should stand on its own merit and not on one's forum reputation, in my opinion.

On the other hand, I'm completely in favor of personally recognizing people's contributions to the board. You can all do this by thanking members who post good information...appreciation can go a long way toward making people more enthusiastic about participating.

I have writen and given to a mod a write up on what one may ecpect for a first time ecstasy experience...I like to see that put up somewhere.

An FAQ for first timers is currently being written so I suspect its being added to that. Cheers matt.

Also I would like to see a maybe a faq page where common myths are debunked and common questions are answered. I know all of this is covered in the directory but I think alot of people skip over it and if they don't skip it...it can be a bit of information overload when they get in there and see how much info there really is contained there.

There was also a sugestion of a "trusted poster" lable for people who know their stuff and give sound advice...I think that might be a good way to take a bit of burden off of the mods. new users can see at a glance if the person is a reputible poster and have a better idea of the amount of credit they should give to that persons posts.

As suggested by RGB, I think it can create an elitism problem. I think most people are smart enough to realise they should seek out more than just one opinion.

In cases of fact, its unusual that posters are able to post misleading info here in ED anyways.

I am also willing to help anyway I can in producing such threads or information if needed.

Maybe the essential guide and the directory are 2 different things...if they are, I have missed the essential guide. I just see too many people skipping over it and asking questions that have been answered in depth in the directory. If it has been covered in the essential guide...then we are back to the issue of people not seeing it or totaly ignoring it. the best I can do for that problem is promote the resource the best I can when posting answer to those types of questions.

That is a very good point and I guess my view on this issue is more of a "new poster" centric one. I have seen a few times where a poster with just a few post on their count will ask what I consider a well known question and the first answer to the qyestion is not sound. yes, that information is quickly debunked by others but thinking back to how i used this site when I was new to the ecstasy game causes some concern. I picture these new users with a pill in hand asking a question right before they drop and assuming the first answer they get is going to be good. Or they ask a question and get conflicting opinions in subsequent answers and don't know who's word in the one to go on. They could wait a day or so and use there best judgement after a good number of people chime in but I don't see that happening. They are going to make a snap desission based on the few posts they get and gobble that pill down.

A new user wants to log on, get the info they need and dose up. the "trusted poster" tag would help them judge if the person giving the advice is worth trusting or if they should hold off on dosing until the get a getter concensus for other posts.But after you brought up the elitism thing...it may be best to sweep this one under the rug...although I have seen it used on another site without too much of that going on (but you still see it from time to time!) It could get really ugly in here if people take it the wrong way.

The MDMA ESSENTIAL GUIDE is the very first link in post 2 of the Directory which is the BASICS section.

Its even got a larger font than all the others to try and highlight it more.

Promoting our resources is very very important and obviously its something our mods do in there sig lines.

Anytime that our posters chime in and help push the various resources available in the Directory is fantastic.

Keep in mind that ED is very much like the foyer of Bluelight. Its where many come upon arrival and as such we will always be inundated with questions that have been answered many times before and while it can become tedious at times, its absolutely vital to help the newcomers and educate them about things such as the Directory and what it contains and how to use it.

Maybe we all need a periodic reminder via PM to promote the resources available on BL. Is there a way to send a mass PM to the users? If there is it may be a good idea to start and inititive via PM to urge them members to document their posts with links to relevant info in the directory.

Maybe we should focus more on bringing the community together and getting everyone on the same page with what is available here and showing new users how to get the most from the site.

and lets face it...everyone likes getting PMs

Here's how it could work:

A mod starts the thread. The topic will be one of the numerous studies that have been done with mdma that they have hand picked or that a member has pm'd them to consider.

The discussions will be "so what does this mean for us, the recreational user" as well as having members (such as augustaB) with their various backgrounds contribute their own knowledge of testing to talk about their concerns (or props for) the methodology. And of course other articles could be referenced and compared.

It would be kind of like what goes on in Advanced Drug Discussion, but mdma centric and more in layman's terms more with the emphasis on harm reduction (and keeping the "magic").

I think its a great idea but I reckon you dont need a mod to kick it off.

i think a great way to improve the discussion on the site wouldbe to keep it simple i'm sure not every one that uses the site understands what a lot of people are talking about if u want to help people with harm reduction topics should be made and be updated regularly for example a simple list and description of the pills to avoid people should share there bad experiences it might help think twicew b4 buying any old thing to get off there head

Pill discussions are not allowed in ED.

Pillreports discussion found here is the place for that type of discussion.

It would be fruitless to have people in France talking about the "blue dolphins" floating around there and then have the Americans giving their thoughts based on the "blue dolphins" floating around here. The topic is too open and pills are copied far too often. It would be a pretty baseless discussion.
