Alby, too right - that's why I created the maintenance n aftercare thread. I was going to produce one on suboxone but then thought it would be better to have one for subs, meth and after-care because after-care is so often forgotten about by the services. We discuss it a LOT in our recovery group. I know that's just focused on addiction but we're all a team here n we're all like a jigsaw puzzle really. We, all are a different piece with something different to bring. I, and a few others will probably do threads on addiction and recovery but I don't know **** all about any other drugs and I woul not DARE try and insult anyone in trying to create anything.

I did the up-the rear end because Swampdragon made a good point that so often, a lot of us discuss issues to do with that area - and people are eating or whatever so don't wish to hear that. If it's in a thread - and they complain, well what are they doing on that thread???

ooooooo isn't this exciting n stuff talking about things like this!!!!

Agreed on more threads.... the shit ones will natrually fade away, the good ones will keep popping up etc, keeps the place more lively as long as people dont start spamming new threads
 
If you go to New Members Intros and see read what questions they are asking - especially people from Europe or Africa - then maybe we need to look if they have those megathreads. If we don't, then we can create them? One of us who is knowledgeable about whatever. I've done my codeine addiction thread, maintenance and aftercare and the rear end thread - I can't think of anything else from my part.

Megathreads tend to come about rather organically usually. There's no point making a Megathread for a topic that's gonna be used as a standard thread and fizzle out. Needs to be lots of interest and they often come about cos so many people start thread on one topic we decide to merge them then take it from there. There is such a thing as too many Megathreads - they're not suited to all subjects. Basically they're for the most popular and most frequently asked about and discussed drugs.

Of course if an NMI noob comes and starts a thread here there's nothing to say it won't become a Megathread. Threads are the thing - Megathreads are more an offshoot of existing threads when the subject is suited to it.
 
honestly its because EADD is like half actual drug discussion for Euros specifically and half full of random conversations that go on for a page or two and dont make much sense to the outside observer. when all the social aspects are condensed into a few MEGAthreads it makes the people who come here for drug info (aka most people) not want to be bothered sifting through all that to get a cheap laugh or two.

more cheap laughs, less time trying to figure out where everyone is at imo

if you insult each other, they will come

Guestimation but 80% of NM are alts trying to rack up 50 posts so they can go troll in the lounge or look semi-legit posting in here (and SLR)

Yea you're right but I'm shocked. I didn't think people would waste their time doing things like that, thought people had better things to do. Must be frustrating for the staff though; trying to ascertain whether someone is genuine or not. No wonder the admins are so busy here. I always wondered why. I'm appalled to be honest because this site is a good site and there's some genuinely decent newbies coming to BL right now, have "met" some of them in NMI and they're really in need of help and advice, some of them have stuff going on. How they meant to have the right level of support and attention if idiots are makings alts doing juvenile things like that? It's disgusting that people would go and make lots of alts and take up staff's time like that when there's genuine people who need that support. I'm kinda a bit annoyed now, as I genuinely care about the newbies who come to BL, so will speak to you all later :)

Well obviously the drug discussion is Euro-specific cos that is the main point of EADD. The point about random discussion which make little sense to outsiders is a reasonable one. The EADD tradition is to not pay much attention to staying on-topic and that is perhaps an area that could be tweaked a bit. In threads we all know are pointless or of little real import wandering off-topic is not an issue but perhaps where we do have more serious topics for threads we could make more of an effort to stay on topic so it's less cliquey and in-jokey for people less familiar with EADD. One of the issues with a busy forum with comparatively few regular posters is we do all kinda get to know each other (a Good Thing) but that can also mean that every thread ends up as a social thread even if there is ostensibly a proper topic being discussed. Might be tricky to turn that around quickly but is certainly something worth considering I'd say.

4chan is not the kinda thing we're aiming for and we're very much trying to cut down on personal attacks, abuse and insults cos that is off-putting for noobs - or certainly for the type of noob we'd like to encourage to post here.

Do you read many NMI posts? Me neither but the ones I do see would mostly be the suspect ones cos they get reported and it's not so much alts as either people wanting sources or people who are very clearly noobs. NMI is not a good forum to try flying under the radar cos you're directly inviting scrutiny and interaction from NMI staff and regulars. Any alt worth its salt would be posting in places where nobody pays much attention to apparently innocent - if somewhat vacuous - posts.
