How can I get the right pain meds from my doctors?

Im currently on 3 x 60mg codiene, 200mg celebrex (anti-inflamatory) per day for a legitimate wrist condtion that is incredibly painful !

This morning I saw the hand specialist for the second time - with a letter from my doctor asking the hand specialist to provide "adequate pain relief" as she does not know what to give me (I suspect that as a doctor at a youth health service she has restrictions on what she can prescribe)

The hand specialist was incredibly unhelpful just upped my codeine to 4 per day and said that anything else would 'knock me out' and would not refer to the pain management team at the hospital.

Im bipolar and losing the plot because of the pain, how do I get what I need???
I only want something slightly stronger than codeine, like tramadol for fucks sake
I cannot believe how hard it is to get the right drugs for a legit condition!!!

Thanks, any tips would be appreciated :-)

Threads like this aren't allowed here. You can be honest with your doctor about your symptoms, and how the meds he is prescribing are working for you. If you are not satsfied with your treatment, find another doctor.

^this.

Please review the guidelines and standards links in my signature and PM me with any questions.

Really the one thing you can do is to continue to be your own advocate, be assertive and push your doctors to address your pain. If you can you should look for another physician to manage your pain if yours is not doing so sufficiently.

the thread deals with all the Chronic Pain discussion around here and is a great place for information, support and resources. The Dark Side forum also has a pain management thread as well.

Last but not least, Welcome to BL!
