Opioids How bad is my addiction??

AWESOME post Rangersfan! Also, I wish you the best of luck with your recovery. The first few months are going to be rough, but tough it out! You definitely have the right mindset for recovery!

Thank you Rorer, and congrats to you too on being clean, and staying that way. I know I'm only 6 days in, but it's a hard process already. I still have cravings just like all other recovering addicts, and I know I'll just have to continue to fight...for me, looking at a picture of my absolutely beautiful wife and son really motivates me to stay the course.

A question for you Rorer...right now a vigorous exercise will flood my body with endorphins, and I absolutely almost feel "high" like I've taken a drug. I know it's so much healthier, and if I do happen to get addicted to working out, lol there could be much worse things to be addicted to, but will there come a day when I don't have to work-out to feel normal? Some days I'd like to feel normal and good without doing anything...just laying in bed watching movies with my wife all day, ya know? Maybe a month or so?

Well, it's highly variable, but it can actually take quite a while to feel normal without having to do anything to boost your mood. I'd say it'd take a lot longer than a month, since you're still very early on into recovery. My estimate would be at least 6 months to a year. Even then, it's difficult to say. Everyone reacts differently to recovery. By the time you've hit the 6 month mark, you'll notice a significant improvement in every aspect of your life and it just continues on from there. Once you've hit a year of complete sobriety, you'll be doing great. Just remember that boredom and a lack of goals are the two most surefire ways to prevent yourself from feeling normal without having to do anything. Recovery is a very, very long process and part of it will be finding out what your triggers for using are ("People, Places, Things") and how to avoid those triggers without making yourself feel any different. The thing to remember is to always give it time and to always take it slow. Rushing through the stages of recovery can be highly risky. Take things at your own pace and never lose focus. If you ever need any advice, feel free to PM me any time.

I know it's not gonna be easy, but since I never got TOO into the drugs, I'm hoping I'll be ok a little sooner than that. My brother was on them for about 10 months, and he was fine within a month. Only time will tell though.
