How bad is drinking soda every day???

And he would be right according to good science. I don't know about you but I don't change my opinion just to be the arbitrary reverse of someone I don't like.

Fruit contains sugar, so if sugar is toxic so is fruit. If you consider fruit toxic you're an idiot, and if you consider a chemical different purely because of the source and not any chemical difference, you're at best very ignorant.

And just to be clear, I already said sugar should not be excessively consumed, you should still probably lay off the soda. I'm just mot willing to lie to convince people.

Lets take glucose and fructose for the example to create a simple diagram to cover all points. Glucose and fructose possess the same empirical formula (C6H12O6), but the body doesn't react to the substances in the same manner.

Glucose is metabolized and can be utilized as energy by all cells, while fructose is metabolized mostly in the liver and has a higher chance of becoming stored as fat. Is fructose necessarily bad for you? No. Neither is glucose, but in excessive amounts you can expect to see some fat gain if given a decent period of time for the excessive consumption. Rule of thumb..if it rhymes with "gross" then don't eat it in large quantities.

Fruit sugar is glucose and fructose, which are monosaccharides. Table sugar is sucrose, which is a dissaccharide. There is a difference in the way the two are metabolized so it's not as simple a matter as lumping all things ending with -ose in the same category.

I know they're different, I'm saying neither fructose, glucose, or sucrose is toxic to humans, they just shouldn't be consumed excessively and soft drinks are an easy way to do so.

The poster I was replying to said sugar was toxic without elaborating on which. And usually the claim is fructose is the evil one so I focused on that.

oh, maybe something to do with the hype about HFCS. thinking of sugar as toxic is a good psychological trick though, villifying certain foods definitely helped me abstain from those that i have a hard time controlling my appetite for. my sweet tooth is something fierce

I drank 1.5L coke a day when I was younger. My biggest problem was that I had trouble falling asleep. When I decided to quit drinking soda on a regular basis, I've had one of the worst headaches ever for almost a week straight.

If we talk about bad, yes it really bad for me. Too much sugar and it turn out that I'm gaining weight especially in my tummy part. That's why I'm slowly quitting it and find another alternatives and try to love drinking fruit juices and water.

I used to drink 1-2 cans of mountain dew and sometimes coke in a day; but then I developed a few cavities, and in college I started to drink coffee daily instead. I also would on occasion drink diet coke, coke zero, and TAB; but then stopped drinking it because of the aspartame, and saccharin in it.

Drinking too much alcohol daily made me gain more weight than soda did.

Sugar is not toxic, high fructose corn syrup is no worse than sucrose. I'm so sick of people buying into the health nazi quasi-cultist elite's personal religion.

Framing it as fructose vs sucrose ignores a huge part of the problem. What about blood sugar spikes and crashes caused by sodas?

Just to give a perspective. I'm currently a medical aid for an individual who has Stage 3 (has been stage 4 on multiple occasions) Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and has also had 5 heart attacks (3 were cocaine induced)...yet this guy consumes a 24 pack of coca cola every 3-4 days. I personally watched him drink 5 cokes along with a couple glasses of wine in a 6 hour time frame like it was nothing. I know for a fact he has some major endocrine issues considering I monitored his caloric intake with the soda and it was was around 1600 calories a day and yet he has somehow gained 45 lbs since he stopped chemotherapy.

Just take everything in moderation because over emphasizing stringent rationing techniques on everything in life including your own vices is just absurd. Live and learn!
