I drink at least one soda everday. some days i dont but its mostly everyday. I wanna know how bad it is to drink that much soda so i can be aware of how unhealthy im being... how much do you think its affecting my health and what differences would i notice if i were to stop drinking soda containing caffeine everyday?

Thanks

I drank sometimes 12 cokes a day, growing up. I can't say I'm healthy. I can't say for sure what it might do negatively besides mess up your teeth, and maybe reduce sensitivity to insulin over use of a lot of it... But I don't have this. My teeth are bad, but that I think is a lot due to grinding, and hot tea with honey. Phosphoric acid may have some negative effects. If you are just drinking 1 a day you probably don't have a lot to worry about. But, then I heard caramel coloring can cause cancer... And other food colorings have been implicated with a number of illnesses, disorders, and diseases. So, if you can, opt for something like tea with a natural sweetener, and/or coffee, or if you like soda, go for a natural soda. Unless you have a sensitivity to caffeine, a little bit shouldn't be much to worry about.

Also, it you go for the mouthfeel- the sugary carbonation, Kombucha tea, although expensive if you buy it pre-made, has this to some degree. Plus its good for us, so it is said.

I don't think it's something you want to drink every day to be honest. Sugary drinks are the only thing that's ever really scared me for its addictive potential.. like I never got a voice in my mind saying "smoke a cigarette".. and yet when I was drinking fruit juices I'd frequently get a voice (not literally of course) and a real strong impulse to drink something sugary.

^Same here. I'm drinking these yerba mate tea drinks and they have small amounts of sugar- like 6% dv per bottle (3% per serving), but I tend to chug the ones with sugar, but the unsweetened ones I nurse. And when I drank coke it was almost one after another. I grew up in a house where a 24 pack was nearly always available, and my parents didn't care what I ate or drank- I was thin and always active outdoors. I really wish they were more strict with food, though. But I think it was the time. It wasn't the most health conscious. I'd devour a box (or more) of 'Gushers' and three cokes in one sitting. Its insane.

The more I consider my growing up, I wish I could go back and parent myself.

Anyways, I notice when I have it (sugar), I crave it. It doesn't matter what form. But if I go without it, all is well.

I don't see anything wrong with drinking diet soda everyday for a reasonable amount like a can a day shouldn't be harmful to one's health, although, I prefer drinking tea due to it's beneficial effects. Not to preach but, I think that for the most part, whatever we choose to consume into our bodies should always be the healthier option.

I will be honest here, I've noted most people who drink soda (and forgive me for sounding biased if you believe I am) daily in large amounts to be unhealthier. I guess there are the rare persons that manage physically (on the outside) but I don't feel the sugar is any good for you, nor the calories. I do have a grandpop that drinks diet coke (sugar free) every day and is in his 90's. But I was very lucky growing up to not even really crave soda, nor be offered it much if at all.

I now have started drinking it about once a week, but find it tasting less attractive after just a short while. I do admit I'm more willing to drink it but I tend to see that I acquire it when eating unhealthy (like ordering pizza). I'd rather have tea or juice myself. To each their own though.

doesn't seem like much, but...

about 1 soda a day adds up to 365 in a year or about 60 6-packs.

Imagine the difference in health putting something healthier in your body may have over time?

In my opinion, soda is pretty awful. The calories, the sugar, the high fructose corn syrup, the artificial colouring.... there's absolutely nothing in soda that's of any benefit to your body, and plenty of stuff that isn't. If you have a caffeine addiction, switch to green tea or coffee (but try not to be drinking a pot of coffee a day) and preferably take your intake down from there.

That level of sugar is poisonous. If only people were more aware of what sugar does to the body. It's no different than drinking alcohol every day or smoking cigarettes. In 100 years people will look back and think we were crazy.

I don't want sound negative, but when I hear "soda everyday", I think "cancer". Something about that high fructose corn syrup really unsettles me.

a can or two a day won't harm an active teenager who regularly brushes. i never got fat from it in high school, twenty years ago.

but i hardly ever drink it now, preferring tea and water.

It's toxic. For years (when I was young and could east/drink and never gain weight) my day started with a 64 oz Big Gulp of Coke, then work for a few hours, come home and sit in front of the computer popping Cokes all day.

Never again! I stopped years ago and I'll never take in 1% of that much sugar in a day in my life ever again!

It absolutely blows me away to see parents letting their kids suck on sugary drinks all day and night. My kids drink water and nothing else and they love it.

Sugar is not toxic, high fructose corn syrup is no worse than sucrose. I'm so sick of people buying into the health nazi quasi-cultist elite's personal religion.

You know what is bad? Consuming excessive amounts of empty calories. It increases your weight leading to lots of other health problems. Diet drinks might be a bit better but it's really not a great solution either, I would simply recommend limiting soda to a once in a while thing. Though I understand that might be hard. Some people find soda pretty addictive. If you can't stop, consider trying to cut back. As for how you may feel? Well getting healthier might well make you feel better and give you more energy.

Right. Humans were meant to consume high fructose corn syrup. 77g in one 12 oz can. Any differing opinion is obviously "health nazi quasi-cultist elite's personal religion."

It's toxic.

We have indeed evolved to consume the fruit sugar fructose of which high fructose corn syrup contains, as well as glucose which high fructose corn syrup contains.

Yes drinking most soda is an easy way to consume more than you should in a day, but that amount is not 0, so unless fruit is also toxic, you're wrong.

And please, no counterpoints in the form of blogs, any website with 2 or 3 word slogans or political messages in its name, is written by a naturopath or similar , or any website which uses the terms "wellness" or "holistic". I won't be reading them.

I think the problem with high fructose corn syrup is the fact it's in so many things that people don't even realize. Whether it's more harmful than sugar is highly debatable and something I'm not going to get myself into lol. I think the big problem is people don't get what moderation is. If your diet is for the most part healthy but you drink a soda or eat some processed shit once in a while you're probably fine. If you sit on the couch drowning yourself with Pepsi and junk food all day you're probably going to develop some health problems.

This is exactly what the CEO of Coca Cola Company would say
