How bad can heroin withdrawals actually be? Help!

Hi folks, this is my first post here, though Ive been a long time bluelight reader. I am in a very bad way right now, experiencing some issues that I have never had previously. Not sure if this is the right area to post, but forgive me if its not, i'm very sick...

Anyway, Ive been using and abusing opiates for a few years now, and i definitely know how withdr'awals are. My drug of choice was previously oxycodone, but i had to switch to heroin because I couldnt afford to keep p my habit. I would take 2-400mg of oxy to get high." Now I have been a daily H user for only two months, but im doing half gram shots each time....

anyway, the sickness: Last friday I went 24 hours with nothing, and suddenly got very nauseated and started vomitting. This continued for 16 hours; straight vomitting bile and dry heaving. I was able to pick up a couple grams, and then what do you know, I feel better. Once that ran out, the vomitting continued. Now it has been exactly a week since this started, and i havent done any H in this week. This entire time it has been the same thing, vomitting all day and night, fever, headaches. I went to the ER 4 times in 7 days, told them everything, got complete urine and blood work done and had no infection, or diseases or anything. Just dehydration. Also got an X-ray that didnt show anything wrong. They think its a stomach virus, but ive just never had something like that for this long, and today I got a tiny bit of H, only had a foil (no needle) so I smoked it and i started to feel better. WTF?

Basically I am asking, could heroin relly fuck up my digestive system like that and make me vomit for 7 days straight? I've always thought wthdrawals were hell, but they were nothing compared to this. I cant eat, cant sleep, and dont know what to do.

Sorry if that was jumbled, im not in my right mind now? Any ideas? Just seeing if others have had similar symptoms for this long a duration. Maybe it is some nasty bug or something, but if it is some kind of flu, would the heroin really just instantly make me feel better, or wouldnt i still be pretty sick? I dont know, I'm running out of options here. Dr's are stumped and I would be glad to quit heroin now if this was the cause, but i thought i would be clear after a few days...

I am truely sorry to tell you but welcome to true w/d's. I am also a (recovering) addict so don't take this the wrong way. You are doing .5 shots of raw, if you are lucky the physical side effects will subside in a few days if you have been clean for 7 days. Unfortunately friend the mental effects will last forever IME and having talked to long time J's. The best advice I can give you is to be strong ! Find the things you used to love before these opiates took over your life. Personally this has been the hardest part for me. Finding true happieness in life and not in a pill.

Your symptoms sound like very typical Opioid Wds not a stomach virus and the fact that heroin resolves the symptoms only further points to Heroin WD

You can use suboxone which will rid you of the W/D symptoms, without actually getting you high or anything. Then you slowly taper off it until you are clean.

Half gram shots of tar doesn't tell us anything. The shit could only be 10% pure so that's 50mgs of actual dope. What you are describing is more than likely unrelated. But, as a fellow junky, I know how it is. Anytime we feel even remotely sick (even it is unrelated to dope) we assume it's dopesickness and use it as an excuse to go get high.

I would go back to the doctor, or just let it pass. Either way, if it is withdrawals, or a virus, it will go away either way. Maybe use this as an opportunity to get off the junk, eh?

I disagree he says he has been on opiates for a few years before this but switched to heroin when Oc got to expensive. Even if he was "only" shooting up for 2 months straight that is more then enough time to develop physical dependancy. I will admit the fever does make it a little questionable but I know my temperature gets thrown all out of whack when im kicking really hard.

I was never saying that he wasn't dependent.. I guess I didn't read itall correctly though. I was just going on the basis that he said that he hasn't done any H this week. The severity of heroin withdrawals, to the degree that he is describing, just doesn't add up. It is extremely unlikely that he would be THAT sick after a week of not using. That is why my assumption is that it is a virus of some sort. I realize he says that smoking some tar made him feel better, but even if he had a virus, heroin WOULD make you feel better. It would reduce pain/inflammation, relax you, suppress your cough/mucous, etc..

I just don't think you can just chalk this up to withdrawals; it could be something far more serious..

I'm with BDP here - it sounds like a nasty stomach bug and not w/d. Probably a virus. Take some diphenhydramine/promethazine, by supossitory if needed, and try to keep fluids and food down. Ride it out.

I'm going to have to agree. After maybe 2 days into withdrawing the nausea could be that bad, but after7 days the symptoms should have subsided somewhat. Something sounds wrong. If you go to the doc again ask for some promethazine, that stuff always works wonders on my nausea.

I would have to say that doing 2-400mg oxy every day for 8 months and .5g SHOTS of heroin daily for 2 months would definitely cause some badass fucking withdrawals.

Combined with the heroin making him better (not just suppressing symptoms, hes better, heroin wont rid you of fever and EVERY SYMPTOM if its something besides w/d) and not high i'd say its definitely some badass fucking withdrawal.

For me puking was never a big w/d thing but i know it definitely was for others.

Sounds like withdrawls to me... I get all the symotoms you mentioned above includingvthe vomiting, bile, etc. etc...
If your a week clean I would just ridevotbout u should b getting better anytime now...
Why sit sick as a dog for an entire week just to get high again and start it all ovee again u know wat I mean?

And honestly there is a chance that u could have the flu or sometging as well, but it sounds to me like u just kicked a hefty h habit dude :/

Sucks bro, sorry to hear it. I also usually do between and half gram and .7 for my shots, so I know exactly what you're going through. Sickness can literally keep me in bed for days. All you can do without taking anything for relief is to be strong man. Keep drinking water so you don't get dehydrated and keep telling yourself that you'll get thru it. Good luck man.

Go to a clinic, get bupe or methadone (IMO bupe is easier)
Now, if you dont want to do that, why not taper your shots down?
And as far as your digestive system, no if wont harm that (it could but its a small chance) The thing you need to worry about now is your vomiting. You see, when you throw up your stomach throws up everything, including a very strong acid (its used for digesting food) That acid can start eating away at you esophagus possible causing, but not limited to : Ulcers, collapse of the esophagus that acid is also strong enough to eat the enamel away on your teeth possibly causing decay, tooth loss, pain, infection. Dehydration is also a very serious issue. This is why you need to taper your usage down, because you were slamming so much because of your high tolerance stopping cold turkey is a very serious issue, and can lead to all the things i mentioned and probably more. I will recap : Taper your usage down till you feel fine and .1 or .05 then try and stop. Or just go to a clinic and get on a detox program, they have saved many lives. Agreed. Eventually you get over it, but in the depths of the sickness, death definitely seems like the easier option sometimes. Sucks.

Damn i can see both sides of this...Every person is different when it comes to drugs and how they react so who knows? Some of my friends have gotten over heroin withdrawals in a matter of 5 to 6 days. Some of them claimed they were going through serious withdrawals for a week or two. He should go see a doctor for sure.

You shouldn't have let your tolerance get that high, i know how the tolerance game works. You were pushing your high too far, trying to get the best possible high every time. You can't be like that with drugs, or your gonna end up dying. You gotta be content with a lesser high, half gram shots jesus.. Taper down, start doing lower and lower doses until your at like 1 bag shots. You will still feel high, and when your out of dope your withdrawals won't be that bad. Don't know what to tell you, you can only live so long with doses like that. Your gonna test out a new bag one time and boot up that half gram, little did you know that half gram = 3 grams of your old shit. Taper down

I've had a mate come down off heroin after smoking and shooting it for months straight and at most was 5 days of sweating sleepless nights tensing every muscle in his body and vomiting and wasn't near as bad as u describe. I don't think it just wds that are causing that although they may be part of it. When u say it starts to go away when u take heroin doesn't mean it's just the heroin. Kurt cobain suffered from crippling stomach pains and the only reason he kept using heroin was no other medicine ( and he was prescribed a lot of it for his stomach) could take away the pain like heroin did.
