There is heartfelt (true) compassion and forgiveness, and then there is self-serving "compassion" to make yourself look good in front of others. But anyone who has ever been in a place of need can see right through the latter. These people who have no clue what they are doing and are just trying to look good piss me off. Here, here on the fake compassion part - some people just don't follow through but go through the motions for appearances.

On topic comfortably numb - sure that's a song, can't remember by who though (without my med's I'm in CONSTANT mental agony (it does have short intervals mind you) as well as physical pain). Starting therapy next week so maybe that will help.
