{Challenged}

I've been talking to my friend about mindfulness and she asked me if it'd be possible to work out a way to explain it to her 5yo daughter and keep it interesting enough for her to want to do.

Thanks guys <3 I'm feeling a little better today, still a little edgy but better

This sounds fun. :) Try making a glitter globe with her and then teaching her how to use it when she gets upset or angry (just watching the glitter fall). Her mood will settle as the glitter settles. Another thing you can do is have her lay down and put a small rock or toy or something on her belly and have her just watch how the object moves as she inhales and exhales.

Haha, my idea is basically a mixture of your two. To dumb it down a little more I was thinking of giving her a stuffed toy (a brand new one she's never seen before and can keep, as well as a similar toy for her mother) and telling her it's a happiness bear, when she feels angry or sad she should take it (outside and sit under a tree preferably) and 'give' it all her bad feelings. Tell her she has to concentrate, breath slowly in and as she exhales to squeeze all the bad feelings into the toy as hard as she can. See how that goes. I also have plans for a group meditation to try and teach her how to 'feel nature'. It's going to be fun and challenging. But hey, if I can turn a little girl into a chilled out Buddhist by the time she starts school, that's a bonus =D

It's so beautiful the interest you have in her. <3

Thing is, she is a wee Buddha already.:D<3
You can use this time to learn from Her. She is unencumbered by all the societal nonsense and no doubt, is a sponge to everything that she senses. Which means that You are a peak in her experience, she is absorbing things about you that you aren't even aware of.

So, be kind to yourself and aware of how you are around her cause this will impact this little being more than you even know. Apart from teaching her, you need to meet her on her level and bring out her own, little individuality, not impose anything at this stage - this is the stage where they are free. :)

Sorry, dont mean to sound arrogant toward you, just that we can reap more reward in letting these wee things be themselves other than trying to change them - at THIS stage, that is . ;)

It's lovely that you have such an interest. Admire you for that to no end. <3
