stardust: I had HUGE troubles going to they gym when I was still deep in my anxiety. In the end, I forced myself to sign up with a personal trainer, and that actually made it a little easier. I could deal reasonably well with one person at a time, so I'd just focus on the session with him and ignore everything else. It was like having a guide to a busy city-- the other people become more a part of the scenery than anything else. In time, I learned how to do that without having him around, and to this day am still great at ignoring everyone else at the gym.... unless they're using the only piece of some equipment that I need!
Oh, and I would recommend not using an elliptical. Weights will benefit you more-- you need to work incredibly hard as a woman to get that 'overmuscled' look, most just tone up quite nicely. For cardio, stick to bikes, running or rowing; ellipticals make it seem like you're doing a lot, while exercising as few muscles as possible.
The next year will be emotional, Rosie, as you continue your journey. Love it for what it is - one of the most tremendous growth experiences you may ever encounter.
Excited tomorrow we will be heading out around noon towards Georgia to retrieve our newest doglet we found from a rescue. 8 hour drive! So excited for a fun road trip with my boyfriend and a lot new scenery to enjoy on the way.
