All kits have their limitations, but I find a combination of (fresh) Marquis, Mandelin and Simons reagents to provide a good indication of what’s present.
Simons is available via the EZ extreme. It is a test for secondary amines, which both MDMA and MDEA are. Providing there are no other compounds present, after first indicating an MDXX like compound with Marquis and Mandelin, Simons will then show whether ingredients include a primary amine (no colour - indicating MDA) or a secondary amine (blue colour - indicating MDMA or MDEA)
Robadope is also in the EZ supreme kit, although I do not trust its reliability from tests I've done. It is supposed to indicate the presence of a primary amine. A good primary amine test together with the above would give indication of a wide variety of compounds and mixtures.
There are a few other substances I know of which also react with MDXX compounds but are not presently marketed as reagents. I hope to investigate these compounds and others in an attempt to find something which specifically reacts with MDXX substances and nothing else.
Currently the best advice is to use testers in conjunction with other supporting information, such as pill reports and trustworthy, reliable acquaintances. Kits have their limitations. This is why health departments are very reluctant to support their use.
