A HORRIFYING photo of pigeons nesting in a stack of used needles has highlighted how extreme the drugs crisis has become in Canada.
Vancouver Police posted this shocking image to highlight the “sad reality of the opioid crisis”.
Supt. Michelle Davey posted the alarming picture yesterday revealing how pigeons had made a nest of the needles in the city’s Downtown Eastside district.
Vancouver has been gripped by a drug problem and police shared the photo to highlight the challenges authorities face in combating it.
In an interview with Vice, Vancouver Police spokesman Randy Fincham said the photo was taken on Tuesday by the force’s homeless outreach co-ordinator during a routine inspection of a vacant room in a building in the city’s downtown east area.
“It was a room that was closed off for quite some time and pigeons has been seen going into the room through the window with needles,” he said.
Police also said it provided a disturbing insight into a world few people got to see.
According to the Globe and Mail, fentanyl use is rife across Canada and triggers a heroin-like high in users.
Manufactured in China, it easily makes its way into the country and can be ordered online like a book.
