Horrible headaches from DXM?

Does anyone else notice they get horrible headaches from syrup?
Or is this perhaps the guafenesin?
I haven't done dxm recreationally in years but when I did it was in syrup and it gave me a skull splitting headache, then last night I developed a horrible cough so in attempts to soothe it I ended up taking maybe 150mg worth of syrup throughout the night, and the horrible nausea and excruciating headaches came back.

I'm wondering has anyone noticed this? And if so was it any different when you just took the gels?
My interest in DXM has recently been sparked again but I obviously want to avoid these headaches so I'm wondering if it was perhaps only the guafenesin which gave me the headaches

apparently a side effect of Guaifenesin is headaches

do you not have access to a dxm product where dxm is the only active ingredient?

I do I'm just reluctant to try it in case it was the dxm which gave me the headaches, because they are by far the worst headaches I've ever had in my life, and I've been suffering from constant headaches from about 20 months ago, but still nothing like this.
Guess ill just have to bite the bullet and give it a shot haha
