I have had IBSD as long as I can remember. Up until last July 2016 it didn't occur often; perhaps 3-10x yearly. In July I had an accident with broken bones & more & personal trauma afterwards. Since then I have experienced IBSD almost daily to different degrees. Bentyl had been the only drug I had tried in the past, but didn't work. I was surprised last month when I finally confided in my doctor re: my IBSD. He prescribed Viberzi. I take 100mg x 2 daily. As he warned me, the diahrrea lessened but not the pain. It takes up to a month or longer for the pain to subside. It has to a good degree. But it isn't a cure.
As for the opioid like side effects, I do have them for 1-2 hours after dosing. I notice a physical effect but no euphoria. It's hard to explain. I have been addicted to opioids in the past because of osteoarthritis which resulted in: 1. Misdiagnosis of where pain originated from, hip or back, it was both, 4 hip surgeries, 3 back surgeries, and 3 wrist surgeries & a possible 4th.
I sent myself to detox and rehab four times after the surgeries and twice after being lied to and becoming an addict because of being a victim of the pain clinics I initially tried when I began to experience chronic pain.
The reason I am telling this story is if you're looking to get high on Viberzi while treating your IBSD I have to ask, "what are you thinking"?
There are dangerous consequences to this plan. And Viberzi is not the drug that gives you that little extra you're looking for. Plus, when your doctor pulls the plug on you for abusing it, what are you going to do then? In the U.S. the DEA has eliminated doctor shopping by allowing all prescription records from every doctor and pharmacy becoming just a click away for your provider. And believe me they check it every time you visit. So does your pharmacy.
Besides Viberzi, I have done a ton of scientific research on how to get my gut to a healthy state. I don't go in for all those quick fix, hocus pocus junk gogi berry type wonder cures because I, like you have a body of science not a body of hocus pocus. I am a clinical laboratory scientist, as well. I found some info to be sound at least on paper, (in vitro, the test tube so to speak) but now the challenge is try them in body (in vivo or real life). I love healthy gourmet meals but I am by no means a food fanatic. I'll share my experiences with you as it goes. I hope to be off Viberzi within 6-12 months. I am so excited to be proactive in healing myself. I wish you all well and hope to benefit from what's working for you. Good day, Terry

Welcome aboard! Sorry to hear about your problems with IBSD - I've never heard of eluxadoline / viberzi before - but thanks for sharing :)
