Home water carbonation - Soda machines

I drink a lot of sparkling water, and for economic, ecological and convenience reasons looked into those home carbonation systems.

Now i stumbled upon this: make your own carbonation system!

Anyone here ever DIY such a machine?
Any safety concerns?

I filter my water with a Brita filter. That's about as active as I can allow myself to be when it comes to such things.

You can buy one of the machines for like a hundred bucks, unless you like science and want to mess around with industrial CO2 tanks - which who knows if they are fit for human consumption - I'd pass
