Holder promises to enforce U.S. drug laws if Prop. 19 passes

Looks like the opposition to the bill are going into over-drive with disparaging analysis, threats and generally trying to convince people that the bill is either flawed or not worth it. The latest poll seems to indicate it's all working.

Would be interested to here from any BLers in California. What's it actually like over there? For example, who's making best use of radio and TV ads and getting their views across most effectively?

Well, i don't watch too much tv or listen to a whole lot of radio, so anyone else feel free to prove me wrong. While I'm sure there are some ads, I haven't seen a single ad for or against legalization since the whole thing began. I'm sure there have been some, but I've yet to actually see any. I've been surprised how quiet this battle has been. Maybe I'm just watching the wrong channels/radio stations when I do?

And to people complaining about the Hogs (feds) what the hell did you expect? I think it was clear that this would happen. I say to them, go fuck yourselves and bring it on. To be honest, I've been surprised I haven't heard MORE threats from the feds. The little I've heard about it gives me hope that California won't have 100 years of marijuana prohibition (was initially banned in 1911 in Cali, first state to ban it) Either way, I'm sure we'll see change after not too long. It's just a matter of time. Some people think its hopeless because its always been banned, remember, as of now its been banned about 99 years, there are people who have been alive longer. Oh and Hogs, just to re-iterate, go fuck yourselves, I'm not afraid of the big bad wolf.

^ Most of the battle has been online or in short segments on news shows IME.

Both sides don't have a lot of money for TV and/or radio ads though Prop19 did run a few radio ads earlier in the campaign.

^^ THERE is California, and HERE is California agreeing with itself. We, my friends, family and I, have not seen nor heard any ads for or against 19. We all have medical cards for various ailments that marijuana treats. We do not drive under the influence of weed, we put our medicine in the trunk when we leave a dispensary and don't take it out until we pull into our garage and park. We know many people who grow their own medicinal herbs in their yards. Prop 19 will not have any affect on us. We want it to pass so that our friends who use mj recreationally will not have to be so uptight about getting caught, and so that DEA fundage could be aimed at harmful substances, not an herb.

If it passes, the taxes will make it prohibitive. Try $600 a square foot by one estimation. Frankly, most of the people we have talked to, our friends and coworkers and neighbors, are concerned about the taxes. 19 is not a very good prop in many people's eyes because if it passes, we will get fucked. If it doesn't we will get fucked differently. If, for example, we can take the Chico airport and make it a grow house (the biggest mj growhouse in the world) and we start growing and then OH NO the taxes come due, and the tax bill puts us right out of work. The Chico Newspaper had a number of articles about it last month, although searching the newspaper's website turned up nothing about it today.

We feel that prohibition of marijuana is more stupid than the prohibition of alcohol was. We feel that alcohol prohibition was a failure and put citizens in danger, and mj prohibition is also a failure and also puts California citizens in danger. Right now there are illegals growing illegal mj in the national parks of California making those parks dangerous for us to use. Marijuana is not going to go away, and crime is not going to go away, but reefer should be safe. Grown safely, distributed safely, used safely. We don't understand how beer, made from a plant (but takes a lot of processing) or wine, made from fruit (but takes a lot of processing) can be had at almost any liquor store while weed is illegal. It takes no processing even! Get some out of the back yard and use it, easily and safely. There is nothing wrong with the nice warm buzz from a few nice beers and there is definitely nothing wrong with a nice warm bowl of bud. Beer and wine should indicate to everybody that weed prohibition has lasted too long, been too dramatic, is overly restrained and the time has come to get serious... you cannot have legal beer and legal wine and legal cigarettes without legal bud. It's absurd. It's always been absurd. Who are the idiots that keep this stupid status quo? They need to go!

This is exactly how I feel about the excellent article that was just posted above it.

The internet exists now and is so well established, cats are falling out of bags everywhere and running around, try to catch 'em all feds!

EDIT:

^ Human rights for everybody on such a fucked up issue is more important than weed growing mania for "dualistic" (lolol) businessmen who can still grow a shit ton of weed illegally. Now come on, you can grow it legally with restriction, it is harder for smokers to not get busted than it is for you to continue with your houses full of pot as it stands. Yeah it's bullshit you can't make even larger amounts of money than you are right now (bullshit on that too), wah wah wah.

...To be honest, I've been surprised I haven't heard MORE threats from the feds...

I am sure the Feds (DEA, White House ONDCP) are just fuming and embarrassed, but maintaining a silent front so as not to grant legitimacy to the debate or Proposition. Only if it passes will they take massive legal action (arrests, seizures) of anyone who dares profit from cannabis in California.
Or they'll seek (and win) immediate injunctions against the State in Federal Courts, ultimately ending up in Supreme Court for battle royal; Supremacy Clause vs. 10th Amendment, assuming it ever makes it that far.

California can surely pull back their enforcement, tax revenue or not.
But the Feds will sweep in and attack; they cannot afford to let the House of Cards collapse via further legalization in other states.

....And then the history books get rewritten soon after this point.

People love to flip a shit about feds improperly stepping in way outside of their rights, drugs or not. (What if guns are next!?!?!?!?)

Well then the rest of you other states need to do a better job of handling the neoconservatives in your own state.
We're making the most progress but we may need some more states to get the the rest of america to mellow out. I'm looking at you oregon and washington. Where are your legalization bills...?

I also have not seen any ads for or against legalization.

^The legalization bills in other states are coming during the next election period, in order to get the liberals excited enough about something to vote. This will help democratic candidates, including Obama, despite his opposition to legalization (funny how things work).

Yeah... it will be fought in the courts. They will try to nullify the state law by contending that it conflicts with federal law.

wtf happened to the tenth ammendment of the US constitution?

US Constitution said:
The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

wtf happened to the tenth ammendment of the US constitution?

I am sure NORML and other marijuana activist groups have lawyers who have been researching tactics to win this case since the prop ever showed up the ballot. And I think the 10th amendment might be part of those tactics.

The government will not let this go through, even if it's somehow passed. I'm very interested in how it will end.

The Federal gov will sue California and California will countersue. Those are the next steps being discussed in Cali.

It will remain in the courts until the entire older generation passes away and the now 20 somethings are in charge of shit.
