Rightio look here he accidentally ( maybe on purpose) put a wee bit in his mouth - you know how sometimes one gets an urge to do something considered unwise but does it anyway.

That's todays effort in hunt to find the boundary between informed conjecture & wild guesswork - which side of the fence does my scenario fall on ?

The two hours thing suggest he might have taken mmm DPT :D

Low dose, absorbed through lungs (fast onset) & unfamiliarity with the psychedelic state could make someone think that it only lasted 2 hours. It takes either a decent dose or familiarity with psychedelics to know when the effects have properly subsided

i've always wondered about the whole "2 hour" length (even before i read nichols' theory). nichols' theory makes perfect sense and i accept that its wholly possible. i was going to basically say what fastandbulbous said but he beat me to it. really any other means of ingesting a dose high enough to produce effects should last much longer than 2 hrs. so maybe he did ingest it through the lungs which resulted in a shorter duration. however the points made about how his familiarity with ergot poisoning would've had him keeping a close watch on time makes me think he was accurate.

after reading nichols' theory i think it would be awesome if it were true as this would really give weight to LSD having some sort of purpose for humanity.

so for me i see 3 possiblities
1)as nichols said he had a mystic experience that happened to coincide perfectly with his working with LSD resulting in its introduction to humanity. this seems more plausible if he indeed did have just a hunch about LSD-25 and nothing else that led him to further investigation.
2)his reports of his working with LSD are wholly inaccurate overall for any number of reasons. however the fact that he made clear that he intentionally ingested a thought to be threshold dose and gave a somewhat detailed report of his experience leads me to believe that he had no reason to falsify his reports but the possibility still exists.
3)he ingested a vary small amount of airborne LSD which resulted in a much quicker and possibly more intense onset and overall duration. AFAIK when ingesting any substance through the lungs a shorter duration of effects results but the substance but the substance hits harder as all of what is ingested is absorbed immediately. this could lead to a lower dose required to achieve threshold effects. since none of us (AFAIK) really have any experience working with synthesizing LSD in a lab by a variety of different methods i don't think we could decide if this third option is plausible as who knows whats really possible when synthesizing LSD in a legit lab environment without any certainty of its effects and little experience with synthesizing it in the first place.
