DOUGLAS COUNTY - Eight Mountain Vista High School students were found smoking marijuana laced with heroin Thursday.

Eleven freshmen at Mountain Vista High were questioned after police confiscated heroin-laced marijuana Thursday morning. Three students face charges.

The school is in Highlands Ranch near Wildcat Reserve Parkway.

The students were found smoking in a drainage area on open space near the school, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. The spot is a popular place for students to smoke so it is regularly patrolled.

After contacting the students, deputies performed a field test on the pot, which found traces of heroin. The marijuana will also be tested by a Douglas County or Colorado Bureau of Investigation lab to confirm the results.

The sheriff's office says lacing marijuana with heroin is not an uncommon tactic used by drug dealers.

All of the students involved are between the ages of 14 and 15 years old. Three of them will likely be charged with possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, according to the sheriff's office.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office says the students probably didn't know the pot was laced.

This is the second time in a week that authorities have confiscated marijuana from the school. Officials think the first batch might also have been laced with heroin.

Good question! Yes, direct flame will destroy any drug. Smoking works because the part that is actually on fire heats the material next to it hot enough to vaporize the drug. As it burns the material that's already been largely depleted of drugs gets fed to the flame next (as the joint or cigarette burns down), providing fuel to heat up the next little bit enough to vaporize the nicotine (or THC or whatever) from THAT material.

In a way, a joint or cigarette is also a vaporizer; you breath in the smoke from the burning part because it's unavoidable, not because it actually contains much if any drug.
 
in my whole career of smokeing I have only had laced shit one time... It was some "african-american" that was trying to push crack on me when I wanted a dime of bud; well he told me to roll back through and he sold me a pre-rolled blunt that contained crack thinking it would get me hoooked.

Anyone who has actually smoked heroin before knows that the odor/taste is nothing short of disgusting.

You're not going to smoke pot laced with heroin and NOT know.

I my experience, it's hard enough to find dope in CO, outside of innercity Denver(and even there it's not easy, mostly rocks...). In the mountai towns, pretty much evreryone with a habit has their own little stash that they have to travel to replenish every once in a while. I'm not saying it's not there, but in all the time I spent in the moutains, i never met one person who actually sold heroin, not to mention someone who would throw it away by lacing weed with it.

But parts of CO are extremely conservative when it some to drugs, and i wouldn't put it past the authorities to produce ad play on propaganda insinuating that 'Those evil drug dealers are all trying to get your kids hooked on dope. It's not your parent's marijuana.'

If there is any truth to it, i would definitely say that the kids did it themselves without knowing it wasn't worth it(I have known people to sprinkle dope on bowls. I always thought it was such a ridiculous waste, but they never listened to me...).

Bottom line, either extremely convenient, or made up drug war propaganda that will most certainly be flouted by at least local authorities as the standard for years to come

Yeah, stoners will just assume any drug can be rolled into a blunt, or insist on lacing their weed with any drug they want to try. For instance, the idiots that want to sprinkle coke over a bowl or want to smoke a bowl of opium with some weed.

It's lame but it's the sad reality.
