New here.
I am here to learn as much as I can from those that suffer from addiction.
A short review of who I am just to clear things up. I am a network guy. I have helped a couple people get clean from drugs and alcohol now.
I have decided that helping people is far more rewarding than working with computers, so this week I start back to college for a Certificate in Addiction counseling, then I will continue for the degree in Addiction counseling, after that I am considering continuing on for a degree in Behavioral Psychology.
This believe it or not is all coming about at the age of 56, and will be what I am considering my retirement job. I am hoping and already have a fairly decent opportunity to work with the Heroin epidemic in the area that I live in.
Currently the Counties idea of helping the addict is for them to go into programs that only cost in the area of 30,000 dollars or be arrested. and Im sure that the addict that has to hustle money for his/her daily maintenance has 30k just laying around.
My theory is that nobody wakes up one morning and decides that the life of an addict is a good career choice, so, I want to help these people get clean, then work with them over time to peel back the shields they have built around them and allow the true beautiful person inside to come back out.
any input into the thinking of the active user, or the recovering addict would really be helpful.
