Hi there! I'm JenGarden, I am a long time lurker. (LONG time, like, I can't remember the first time I found bluelight but I feel like it's nearly a decade!)
I finally decided to make an account and start posting because of Ebola.
We are friends IRL and discuss biochemistry-related topics all the time. I don't honestly have a lot of people in my life I can discuss topics like this with, so I thought I'd finally see what the hubub is about after watching him post here the morning after evenings we ended up hanging out.
I'm an undergrad in Biochemistry, currently not in school because you have to pay money for that in the states here. I am hoping to return soon, my recent 3-month fling with research chems, testing and identifying when a chem is not what it seems has rekindled my passion for analytical chemistry and I can't wait to get back in the lab!
I'm a mod on Reddit in the /quittingkratom subreddit. I'm not anti-kratom, it certainly has it's place... but I did manage to design a pretty effective tapering protocol for people who have developed a habit and want to stop like I did.
I'm pretty interested in gardening, but I am not great at it yet. I'm at kitchen herb-level, and still screwing up tomatoes level. 8) I'm a big techie too, my partner and I have four computers to the two of us and more wi-fi access points in our apartment than South Korea. *rimshot*
I love cooking, I used to be a catering assistant chef for about a year and learned a lot. It's actually part of what got me into chemistry initially aside from being a huge nerd.
I loved imagining the chemical reactions and physical changes going on as things cook, or marinades do their magic. I really like presenting it beautifully to... it's almost like a sand mandala. You spend a lot of time making a beautiful thing, and enjoy it for a little while... and reflect on the impermanence of everything as you eat it. A work of art painstakingly created and consumed, never to be seen on the earth again. (Except maybe on facebook.
)
That's me I guess, hi! I'm glad to be here!
