hi i was wondering if anyone was experiencing this, after taking opiates i get no effects from alcohol, anyone know why or had this happen to them? im worried i gave some kind of permanent damage. (forgive me if im doing this wrong, im new)

"All addictive substances impact dopamine directly or indirectly. Alcohol and heroin stimulate a receptor in the brain called the opiate receptor. Heroin binds directly to the opiate receptor, while alcohol triggers the release of naturally occurring endorphins, which then bind to the opiate receptor. Stimulation of the opiate receptor by heroin or alcohol-induced endorphins causes cells to release dopamine."

What kind of opiate are you using?

Opiates (Opium, Heroin, Morphine, Methadone, Codeine) are extremely powerful on their own, and much more so when combined with alcohol. Mixing the two substances significantly increases a person’s likelihood of overdose.

What this means, In time, you will build up some resistance and need more to "feel" the effect, it doesn't mean that the substance endorphin isn't present in your system. Endorphin is the bodes internal morphine".

My own experience with Codein and Morphine is that it takes so little time before you wear off that "effect" before you go "numb", and don't feel like you even took something...but when i stopped taking it for a little while, say couple of weeks or less, after taking morphine and codeine depending on what I had available, id feel the effects again. (ps, I had prescription drug, due to an accident).

Id say stay off for some time and try again after your resistance is worn off a bit. Do you ever experience difficulty peeing?

thanks for the reply. i was taking tramadol/zydol for back pain, id only take it at night. im from the UK, we call it tramadol. i have not taken any for around 7 months, no other pain meds either.

no difficulty urinating while on or off tramadol. what i meant by no effects was the buzz, the feeling you get in your eyes, the tipsyness if im making sense here? i get the the slurred speech though, im basically mentally fine, it feels like i havent drank anything. so im wondering if theres damage to the receptors?

It's not impossible... I used to bulls-eye womp rats in my T-16 back home. They're not much bigger than two meters.

Your not doing anything wrong at all. The section mod will be along shortly to move your post to the correct section, until then - IGNORE the trolls! Other drugs section

In my experience I don't feel "good" from alcohol if I have buprenorphine in my system

but this didn't seem to happen with heroin (heroin + alcohol = a very bad idea; please don't do this, very risky in terms of CNS depression)

welcome! if you have any questions feel free to ask me

thanks, i wasnt talking about mixing, maybe i should of been more clear. i have not taken an opiate in 7 months, yet i still do not feel any effects from alcohol when i drink it, even on an empty stomach. my worry is my receptors are damaged?

i thought it was a tolerance issue but it clearly isnt as i dont drink often (twice a month) i last drank half a bottle of vodka, around 15 units of alcohol and i was puking but still didnt really feel drunk, mentally i was ok. theres no buzz. i know that sounds weird

but before i ever took opiates i really enjoyed alcohol, the buzz and tipsyness, now its just dull. thats why im thinking my receptors are damaged and im screwed for life :/

I don't think you're screwed for life

I have less of an appreciation of alcohol after I used opiates too

I believe it's because you've desensitized yourself to the downstream effects of alcohol (most drugs, including alcohol, indirectly as a downstream effect stimulate the mu-opioid receptors; these receptors are directly activated by opiates)

It's possible one day in the future you might enjoy a drink, but I can't be sure. Thank you for sharing your experience, and I hope you can enjoy alcohol again one day.

I do not believe it is a result of brain damage though; that's not what I think has happened here.

thanks for your help, that does make sense. the only final question i have is - can mu-opioid receptors rejuvenate/repair?

My understanding is that we grow too many mu-opioid receptors, as a result of being exposed to heroin/opiates for long-enough periods of time

we have an endogenous (inside our body) supply of endorphins (opiate-like feel-good chemicals), and it does very little with too many mu-opioid receptors (imagine you have 1 gallon of gas for 100 cars, whereas if you just had 1 car, the 1 gallon of gas would get you somewhere.)

after abstaining, the number of receptors drops back down to an appropriate level

I'm not sure if this is what you're going through or not; are you having problems with depression, problems enjoying eating, sleeping, sex/masturbation, or hobbies/activities that you were once a fan of? Any other symptoms/anything you're also noticing?

the day after i stopped opiates i felt fine, a good night sleep and then i went to the gym, and kept eating like a horse. i carried on as normal? ive read how bad withdrawal can be and im confused, i didnt feel any of those symptoms. i feel just like i did before i ever touched an opiate

Interesting, well if the only effect you're noticing is not experiencing alcohol intoxication euphoria, then that's certainly an interesting occurrence.

I'm very unsure why you're experiencing this, and hopefully someone else will have a good idea of what to say.

Perhaps you could post a thread explaining all you've said here in Other Drugs, and perhaps there will be a great response from some of our members. <3

thank you for your time. BearLove said a moderator would move this thread over there, so i dont know
